It's a result of the football generation, 30 second sound bites is all the attention span many folks can handle these days.

At least here, most people can consider whether or not BP should have been sac bunting or not. Most Reds fans that I know really couldn't tell you or even care one way or another.

To be fair, you usually don't miss the playoffs in the NFL because you had a bad 18-24 minutes somewhere during the course of the year, whereas teams routinely miss the playoffs by 3 or 4 games in baseball.

What the moderators said above is spot on. It's perfectly fine to be critical, provided it's done in a constructive manner ('Dusty sucks!' is not constructive). However, it is never OK to hijack a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the person and/or decision you're criticizing. This thread is a perfect example of what not to do in that regard.

Is pretty amazing all the negativity, 'off with their heads' stuff here though, different from some, I find it pretty amusing. Strong opinions -- generally constructive and well supported -- being a good thing.

I'm in the camp of believing it's just one game, the Ludwick injury is by far the biggest event from that game and the decision to have BP bunt, while debateable, was defensible given all the factors already cited upthread. Oh, also, a Hamilton and Chapman for Stanton deal seems bit wacky to me. Saw Stanton yesterday at Opening Day here. Damn good player no doubt but the Missile is a very special and unique talent; Hamilton may prove to be.

Two tough series this week. We need to bounce back with some Latos redemption tomorrow. Nats are going to be tough but, excepting the couple youngster outbursts yesterday, they hit no better than we did. It's a long season. Reds will emerge.

Ludwick on the injury: "One aggressive play, it happened. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably do the same thing. It's just a freak accident. I couldn't help it."

Baker can't really like hearing that when he reportedly discourages head-first slides.

It did seem like a freak injury. As I recall his right arm didn't even touch the bag. He must have jammed it falling to the ground

As late as it was when we got home last night and having to get up and go to work this morning, I didn't read any quotes or watch Reds Live until this morning.

I just was able to see the Ludwick interview on Reds Live and he said when the shoulder was popped back in he felt instant relief. That's got to be a positive. If there was any structural damage or torn muscles the pain would have still been intense I would have to believe.

Watching the replay, it seemed that it was after he hit the ground. It looked like his elbow got caught at one point and "jammed" his arm upward.

Yeah, that was very good to hear.

What I am wondering about is whether there is now a greater chance of this happening again, especially with the torque of Ludwick's power swing.

    Then worry away.

Too be fair the amount of angst generated by one at bat in the 1st game of a 162 game season is narcissistic drama at its apex.

It isn't the at bat that is the problem. It was the thought process that went into it that shows up all season long.

unfortunate with the Ludwick injury, might have to bring back Rolen and put Frazier in LF
