B-R.com blog: Wilkin Ramirez makes unofficial MLB's 5 Millioneth appearance

Baseball Reference had this interesting piece on baseball reaching a milestone in its history, the 5,000,000th appearance in a game. You'll have to take your shoes off to work with a number that big!

I didn't realize Wilkin Ramirez had been around that long to make 5 million appearances.

It was tricky trying to figure out a subject header and knew I wasn't quite getting this precisely right.

That's a pretty crazy number. However, something I thought of was that of all those plate appearances, Pete Rose by himself accounts for 0.3178% of the 5 million plate appearances.

I think they're talking about game appearances, not PA. So Rose would account for .07124% of those. Keep in mind though that there have been around 18,000 players throughout history, that's no chump change.
