I think they go by head to head results and right now the series is tied at 8. If that's the case, the weekend series will be the rubber match, so to speak.
The REDS (and Pirates for that matter) can afford to go into the last weekend a game behind, because by taking the series and tying for the WC, they get Home Field.
Which probably plays into the whole Reynolds on Wednesday decision.
If say, RED and Bucs win (or lose) Tuesday, Wednesday's game becomes irrelevant for the WC Home Field race.
