I think I'm in the minority, but I'm VERY encouraged by Bruce this season. He hasn't hit the ball to opposite field with any regularity since the minors and his first few weeks in the bigs. I think once he's back to being comfortable going oppo, and can pull the ball as well, we'll see the marked improvement everyone is looking for.

If Bruce will continue go the other way regularly, he his productivity will improve by leaps and bounds. Maybe the light has finally come on in both Jay's heads, and the collective heads of our coaching staff.

I almost keeled over when I heard Dusty a few days ago speak in favor of Jay taking the ball the other way.

If its too early (and it is) to be worried about Bruce's "slow start" its also too early to get too excited about his hot start.

I do love the fact that his hot start has completely counteracted his slow start. One week into the season, and it is, in fact, a hot start rvrn if it didn't start that way.

    Small sample sizes are awesome.

Is it time to start bottling what Bruce is drinking and selling it?

That Joe Votto guy could learn a thing or two from .300 hitter Jay Bruce.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I have no worry he will be fine, but doesn't it just pain you to see Votto struggling? Taking pitches down the middle. Hacking at pitches off the plate. The 3-0 pitch debacle today. Not what we are used to seeing.

That .450 or so OBP sure is nice, but you can see he is in a funk.

So when is homer #1 coming? Should we start a pool? Was awesome to see Jay use the hold field this weekend at the games.

with the kind of talent Bruce has he should be hitting 315 with 30 homeruns every year, that's how much i see in him and why i get disappointed with him so easily sometimes. He has more ability than Votto by a decent amount

Which tells you volumes about how important approach and smarts are in this game.

Re: Get Bruce some extra help?

To say he has more ability than Votto is just wrong. Votto is one of the most physically gifted players in baseball. You don't have one infield popup in like three years without having an obscene amount of talent.

    Exactly.

You can't really judge a player's hand-eye coordination, ocular capabilities or even his reaction time by observing him play baseball. I'm guessing Joey is off the charts in all categories.

Someone needs to drop him a note then. Maybe he doesn't understand how good you think he should be. I'm sure he just needs to try harder.
