Correct. MLB Advanced Media has come a long way with the algorithm they use to classify pitches. It is usually right about 85-90% of the time, where as it used to be more like 50% (It would mostly nail a fastball/change up, but beyond that it wasn't all that accurate between breaking balls/cutters).

If you want an accurate break down of pitchers pitches, head over to BrooksBaseball.net and check out the player cards. The guys who run that site are the guys who run Pitch Info LLC. They have worked with MLBAM and Sportsvision (the people behind the system) to improve the classifications over the years. The player cards use their own algorithm to classify pitches. They go to pretty big efforts to identify pitches at times that are "tweeners" including examining pictures of grips, videos and breakdowns to identify just how a pitch is moving.

Gotcha. I kinda figured that's what you were referring to.

    Re: Cingrani...

Cingrani started off today's game with 45 straight fastballs before finally throwing a breaking pitch.

Edit: Through 70 pitches, he's thrown four non fastballs. He's not going to survive pitching that way, doesn't matter how good his fastball is.

Edit #2-He's done for the night. 85 pitches, 77 of which were fastballs.

Thought it was interesting Baker pulled him after 4 innings. Maybe he was gased but also think Baker was trying to send a message.....get your pitch counts down.

Since our offense can't score, Baker was correctly taking an opportunity to improve our chances to score. Had we been up 4-2, or Cingrani had not been batting, he would have gone 5.

How are those stats holding up these days?

Cingrani optioned to AAA, Soto called up to take his place.

It's the right move. With Cuerto coming back on Monday it looks like, the rotation shouldn't miss a beat. Plus he threw 587 fastballs, 5 sliders, 65 curveballs, and 47 changeups. And that just isn't a way to succeed in the majors.

Hopefully he'll work on his other pitches and we'll see him again this year.

Agreed. While he really helped us out, there's just no way it could last with all of those fastballs. Definitely hope he can get those other pitches worked out because it'd be great to eventually see him join as a full-time member of the Cincinnati Reds.

In honor of Mr. Cingrani's recent MLB performance, I will reveal that for the past month whenever I hear his name I want to sing "Cingrani" to the music of "Volare". Please continue with your evening.

Ahh, total (radio edit) move out of you. But I will eat my crow. Shelby Miller has been lights-out good.

Some good info was rounded up on Winker tonight. What about Tony? Any news out of Louisville? Mentions on game broadcasts?

The last word Fay had a couple of days ago, said that Cingrani is on a throwing program, building up strength.
