    Minor League Scores - Saturday - 4/6/2013

Louisville is underway. Billy Hamilton is not in the lineup.

Bats jump ahead in the first on a Jason Donald double, a Henry Rodriguez single and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Hessman.
Greg Reynolds (who?) surrendered a pair of runs in the second.
Bats retake the lead in the third inning. Kris Negron singles and Emmanuel Burriss walks. Negron steals third. A wild pitch plates Negron and moves Burriss into scoring position. Donald doubles, his second in three innings and fourth in two games, to score Burriss.

Pensacola hosts Tennessee (730 EST) - Tim Crabbe on the mound.

Bakersfield visits Stockton (1005 EST) - Jonathan Moscot will be pitching for the Blaze.

Dayton leads West Michigan after 7 1/2.

Carlos Sanchez is 2 for 3 with a single, a double, a run scored and a run driven in.
Brent Peterson has two singles, a run scored and a run driven in.
    Jeff Gelalich has a double
Jesse Winker has his first hit as a Dragon - a single.
Joe Hudson has scored a run and Robert Ramirez has a sac fly.

    Drew Cisco pitched well in his Dragon debut. 6IP 3H 1ER 1BB 8K 1HR.
Jesus Adames had pitched two scoreless inning in relief. 1H 0BB 2K.

Bats tack on at least 2 more in the bottom of the fourth.

Felix Perez walks. Konrad Schmidt doubles him home. Ashley walks. Negron reaches for the second straight time. This one comes on a walk that loads the bases. Burriss whiffs. Donald fans but not before a wild pitch brings across the second run of the inning. That is the second time today Donald has been at the plate when a wild pitch scored a run for Louisville. Henry Rodriguez walks to reload the bases for Mike Hessman. Hessman draws the fifth free pass of the inning and the Bats now lead 6-2. Phipps is retired to end the inning.

Dayton explodes, putting a five-spot up in the top of the ninth.

Joe Hudson singles. Carlos Sanchez draws a walk. Brent Peterson with his third hit of the game plates a run. Runners move up to second and third on the throw. Beau Amaral singles home Sanchez. Peterson stops at third. Runners on the corners. Robert Ramirez singles in a run. Runners still on first and third. A Jesse Winker ground out plates the fourth run of the inning. Ramirez moves up 90 feet. Seth Mejias-Brean grounds out. Ramirez moves over to third on the play. Jeff Gelalich reaches second on an error. Ramirez trots home with the fifth run of the inning.

    Sean Lucas implodes.

Single, walk, single, flyball, single, flyball and strike out. He allows two runs. But Dayton takes it by a final of 8-3.

I was at the Bats game today, my first of the year. Some observations:

Billy Hamilton is in fact just day-to-day. He looked completely fine to me, you would never know he was injured. He seems like a really good guy as well, he signed a ton of autographs both before and after the game.

The starting pitcher, Greg Reynolds, who was the 2nd overall draft pick in 2006, seems, at best, another Chad Reineke. They were not hitting him hard, but he struggled with control, and got out of a number of jams. Decent AAA fodder, but don't expect any big league impact.

Justin Freeman has a nice arm, he was throwing 95-96 in the 9th.

It was Corky Miller Bobblehead day, but for some reason, Corky was not in the lineup. He only emerged from the dugout to coach first base in the 8th, and he was given thunderous applause down the first base line when taking his position, and again from behind the dugout when he came back. Very cool to see. There was a "We want Corky" chant in the 9th inning, which Billy Hamilton and number of other Bats seemed to find hilarious.

Slugger Field is a great as ever, I enjoyed seeing a number of my favorite ushers . Also, very glad that the Bats brought back the long time voice of Slugger Field (pa announcer) after a couple of years absence.

Felix Perez has to be promoted to the Reds sometime, so his walk up music is played over the GABP speakers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njrmL1y3ul8

Mike Hessman is twice the size of Henry Rodriguez. Hessman batted in front of H-Rod today, and it was very amusing watching him emerge from the dugout as Henry walked to the plate.

And of course, it was great seeing the Bats do in three games what it took 74 games to do last season - win three in a row.

Justin Freeman hitting 95 and 96 is probably a sign that the Bats stadium gun is 2-3 MPH hot. In the past he has always been a 90-93 guy.

I went back and checked. Freeman pitched March 30th in spring training. One week ago. He topped out at 93 and was mostly 91-92.

Louisville holds on by the score of 6-4.

Speaking of Chad Reineke, he had a very nice outing. 4IP 0H 0ER 1BB 4K.
Speaking of Justin Freeman, he wobbled in the ninth. 1IP 2H 1ER 0BB 1K.

Pensacola falls 9-1. It was 1-1 through 11 when all heck broke loose.

    Bats:
LaMarre a walk and a run scored.
Devin Lohman a walk and a single.
Steve Selsky a walk, two singles, and an RBI.
Brodie Greene and Ray Chang had singles.

    Arms:
Tim Crabbe worked five solid. 5IP 2H 1ER 2BB 5K. He is a solid pitcher if he has his control.
    Yohan Pino - 3IP 1H 0ER 0BB 2K.
Drew Hayes worked a scoreless ninth, striking out 2.
Curtis Partch also worked a scoreless frame, striking out 1.
Lee Hyde and Josh Ravin stunk up the joint, allowing 8 runs in less than an inning.
Logan Ondrusek came on and mercifully got the last out.

So what is the latest on Billy Hamiton's shoulder?
“I think I throw the ball as hard as anyone. The ball just doesn't get there as fast.” — Eddie Bane

“We know we're better than this ... but we can't prove it.” — Tony Gwynn

Billy Hamilton, who had three stolen bases on Friday night before being pulled in the fourth inning, did not play Saturday because of a sore calf. He did serve as first base coach for several innings.
That is from the Louisville Courier-Journal. Doesn't sound serious.

That also helps to explain the reports of Cingrani touching 95-96 during his start.
