Agree on the Barnhart-Hanigan comp. Interesting for comparison are their 22 year old seasons. Hanigan at 22 was putting up a .688 at Dayton, Barnhart currently is at .709 two levels higher.

I know it's not to wear a glove. Hasn't played an inning of defense. 1st 5'10" DH prospect to get signed into pro ball by an NL team.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Saturday, August 24: Ismael Guillon, Dayton . . . 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K. After a wild and wretched first half of the season, the 21-year-old lefty is finally on a roll. Over his last six starts, he has permitted just 6 ER in 33.2 IP (1.60 ERA). His OPS-against for August is .583.

    Also notable . . .

Ryan LaMarre: 3-3, 3B, SB (22). Has hit in eight straight games. Seems like a different player lately.

    Mike Costanzo: 2-3, 2B, BB, R, RBI.

    Daniel Renken: 6 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.

    Chris Manno: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Trevor Bell: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Sv (17). ERA 1.50.

    Sharky Rogers: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.

Billy Hamilton: 2-5, 2B, R, RBI. Delivered a walkoff single in the ninth.

Neftali Soto: HR #14, 2 RBI.

    Henry Rodriguez: 2-4, 2B.

    Kris Negron: 2-4, SB (10).

    Emmanuel Burris: 1-2, BB, R.

    Feliz Perez: 1-3, 2B, BB, R.

    Daniel Pigott (Dayton): 2-4, 2 2B, R, 4 RBI.

    Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-3, BB, 2 R. Up to .306.

    Beau Amaral: 3B, R.

    Ben Lively (Billings): 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K. It's getting a little ridiculous, as the 0.73 ERA would attest.

Avain Rachal: 3-4, HR #4, 3 RBI. The 19-year-old second baseman might start popping up in the prospect ratings (within the organization, that is).

    Adam Matthews: 2-3, 3B, BB, R.

    Daniel Wright: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K.

    Joe Mantoni: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, Sv (5). At 22, this year's 18th-rounder has flashed an 0.57 ERA in his 15.2 IP.

Joey Housey (Bakersfield): 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. The former Oregon star is on his third club this year.

    Junior Arias: 2-4, 2B, R.

    Steve Selsky: 2-4, 2 RBI.

    John De Leon (DSL Rojos): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K. He's 6-foot-4 and 19.

Anthony Rubicondo: 2-4, 2 RBI. The young second baseman has been making a little noise.

I still feel like if Lamarre can develop 15-20 HR a year power he could be a 4th OF in the bigs for 5-10 years.

Too late to edit, and not that it really matters, but Guillon had 3 K last night (not 2).

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Sunday, August 25: Tim Crabbe, Louisville . . . 7.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K. Well, there were four pretty comparable pitching performances on the day, but Crabbe gets the nod for circumstance. It was his Triple-A debut, and he pitched effectively into the eighth.

    Also notable . . .

Franderlyn Romero (AZL): 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Winning numbers, no doubt, so we'll at least credit him with the best relief effort of the day. Romero is a 20-year-old Venezuelan serving his fourth year in the organization, first in the States.

Nick Travieso: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. I wish he'd get to hit now and then. He's alleged to be good at it. At any rate, he seems to have done a nice job of appeasing the skeptics concerning his first-round worthiness.

    Jon Moscot: 6 IP, 8 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K. Speaking of pitchers who can hit . . . he's 3-6 on the year, with two doubles and a triple.

Beau Amaral: 3-5, 3B, R, 2 SB (35). And speaking of triples . . . he has one in three straight games.

    Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-5, 2B, R.

    Daniel Pigott: 2-5, 2 R.

Joe Hudson: 2 RBI, one of which proved to be the game-winner in the 11th.

    Jesus Adames: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, Sv (1).

    Devin Lohman: 2-3.

    Yorman Rodriguez: 2-4.

    Lee Hyde: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. The lefthander still hasn't given up a run since May 19. That's 37 games.

    Michael Lorenzen: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.

    Mike Hessman: 2-4, 2B.

    Jason Donald: 1-3, 2B.

    Carlos Sanchez: 3-4, R.

    Adam Matthews: 2-4, 2 2B, R, RBI.

    Junior Arias: 2-5, RBI.

Juan Silva: 1-3, 2 BB, RBI.

    Julio Morillo: 2-3, BB, R.

    Kyle McMyne: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.

    Nick Routt: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K.

    Cory Thompson: 2-4, 2B, 2 R.

Shedric Long: 1-3, HR #1, 3 RBI. This kid could be interesting. Drafted in the 12th round out of Jacksonville, Alabama, he just turned 18 a few days ago. He's a left-handed-hitting catcher.

    Argenis Aldazoro: 1-2, R, RBI.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Its nice to see AAAs rotation starting to fill up with guys who appear to have a good shot as future SP or RP in the bigs.
Also nice to see so many pitchers who have been promoted do so well early on, from Moscotto Rodgers to Contreras and all the others.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Monday, August 26: Luke Moran, Billings . . . 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K. Since being drafted in the 14th round last year out of community college, not much attention has been called to the 21-year-old righthander. Last night, he found a way to get some.

    Also notable . . .

    Josh Smith: 7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K. The steady righty sports a 3.41 ERA for Pensacola.

    Yorman Rodriguez: 3-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI.

    Mike Costanzo: 2-4, HR #4, 2 R, 2 RBI.

    Devin Lohman: 2-3, 2B, BB, 2 R.

    Travis Mattair: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI.

    Jamie Walczak: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

Lee Hyde: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. The scoreless streak reaches 38 games, 37.2 IP. It's not often that Hyde closes, but perhaps more significantly, it's not often that he pitches two games in a row. Wonder if they're pushing him with a purpose in mind.

    Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-2, 2B, HR #10, BB, 2 R, 2 RBI. Batting .310 now, and advancing on all fronts.

    Beau Amaral: 2-5, 2B.

    Brent Peterson: 2-2, R, 2 RBI.

    Kanekoa Texeira: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. Nice fill-in.

    Daniel Corcino: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. See Lee Hyde, above.

    Zach Duke: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K. And while we're talking about guys who might help out in the big-league bullpen down the stretch . . .

    Jumbo Diaz: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, Sv (11).

    Neftali Soto: HR #15.

    Felix Perez: HR #10.

Juan Silverio: 3-4, HR #17, SB #4. His home runs now lead his bases on balls by 6. And his stolen bases now trail his caught stealings by 3. But he's had a nice year. Really.

    David Vidal: 2-4, 2B, R.

    Shaun Ellis: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K.

    Ben Klimesh: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

    Robert Ramirez: 2-3, 3B, R, 2 RBI.

    Ty Washington: 1-2, 2B, BB, R.

    Austin Muehring: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Sv (5).

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Tuesday, August 27: Tyler Mahle, AZL Reds . . . 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K. Impressive domination, in relief, for the 18-year-old Californian. A 7th-round pick this year, the righthander has put up some nice peripherals: 34.1 IP, 8 BB, 30 K. He set the pace for an uncommonly productive night among the recent draft choices out of high school.

    Also notable . . .

Kevin Franklin: 3-4, 2B, R. Second round, third base, California.

Dalton Carter: 2-3, BB, R. Seventeenth round, outfield, Georgia.

Mark Armstrong: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Third round, New York. Only his second appearance.

Kevin Garcia: 2-3, 2 2B, BB, 2 R, SB (4). Big nights are not out of the ordinary for the 20-year-old Venezuelan, batting .330 with an .878 OPS.

Aldi Guzman: HR #3, BB, 3 RBI.

    Yonaton Suero: 1-2, 3B, R.

    Juan Silverio: HR #18.

    Kyle Waldrop: 2-4, SB (18).

Sean Lucas: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. First outing in six weeks. Had forgotten about him.

Jake Johnson: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. That's a lot of strikeouts for the tall righthander. Perhaps a good sign.

Pedro Villarreal: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. (Still think he should be off the 40-man.)

    Kevin Whelan: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Loek Van Mil: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. First Louisville appearance for the 7-footer.

    Devin Lohman: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI.

    Ray Chang: 2-3, 2 2B.

Brandon Short: 1-2, BB, R, RBI.

Drew Hayes: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Unfortunately, there have been far too few of these from Hayes this year. Probably the prospect I've been most disappointed in. Interesting that he's ticketed for the Arizona Fall League.

Gabriel Rosa: HR #6, 2 RBI.

Carlos Sanchez: HR #5, 3 RBI.

    Aristides Aquino: 2-4, 3B, R.

    Jose Ortiz: 1-3, 2B, R.

    Austin Salter: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Zach Weiss: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K.

Any truth to the rumor that Rick Pitino was in the stands last night?

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Wednesday, August 28: Kevin Franklin, AZL Reds . . . 3-4, 2B, BB, R, 2 RBI. It was the second straight game in which the 220-pound third baseman (this year's second-round draft choice out of a California high school) has gone 3 for 4 with a double. He's 12 for 23 in his last six tilts.

    Also notable . . .

    Logan Uxa (AZL): 2-4, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 3 RBI. The 22-year-old first baseman has an .818 OPS.

    Cory Thompson: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 R, RBI, SB (3).

    Alberti Chavez: 3-5.

    Dalton Carter: 2-5, 2B, RBI.

Kevin Garcia: 1-4, 2 BB, 2 SB (6). The Venezuelan outfielder has doubled his SB total in the last two games. Guess somebody advised him to run more.

    Juan Martinez: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

    Billy Hamilton: 2-5, 2B, R.

    Henry Rodriguez: 2-4, 3B, R.

    Derrick Robinson: 2-4, BB, R, SB (3).

Denis Phipps: 1-3, BB, R, RBI.

    Jose Arredondo: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

Beau Amaral: 2-4, SB (36). It seems like he's on this list every day, yet he's dragging along a .638 OPS. Doesn't compute.

    Wandy Peralta: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.

Juan Silverio: 2-4, 3B. On an extra-base binge.

    Juan Perez: HR #8.

    Danny Vicioso: HR #2.

    Brent Peterson: 1-3, R, SB (1).

    Joey Housey: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Has thrown 9 scoreless innings for Bakersfield.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Thursday, August 29: James Allen, Bakersfield . . . 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. The former Kansas State reliever gave up an early home run and then cruised. He received shutout relief, an inning apiece, from Ben Klimesh, Carlos Gonzalez, and Pat Doyle, who closed out the 1-hitter.

    Also notable . . .

Sharky Rogers: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Barring an unexpected callup, the resourceful righthander finishes his season (split between Pensacola and Louisville) with a 3.21 ERA over 140 innings, giving up 113 hits. He pitched himself further up the prospect ladder.

    Billy Hamilton: 2 SB (75).

    Derrick Robinson: 2-4, BB, R.

    Neftali Soto: 2-4, BB.

    Henry Rodriguez: BB, R, 2 SB (6).

    Corky: 1-2, BB.

    Jose Diaz: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.

    Donald Lutz: 2-4, 2 2B.

Carlos Contreras: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K. The former reliever completes his season with a combined 3.47 ERA between Bakersfield and Pensacola (2.76), working 132.1 innings (122 K) over 26 starts.

    Daniel Pigott (Dayton): 2-3, BB.

Joel Bender: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. The Oak Hills product has helped himself this year.

Aristides Aquino (Billings): HR #7, 3 RBI.

Chad Jones: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K for the former cornerback. It was his Pioneer League debut.

Juan Perez (Bakersfield): 2-4, RBI, 4 SB (31).

Juan Silverio: 2-4, HR #19. His third HR in four games. In the other, he tripled.

Kyle Waldrop: 1-3, BB, RBI, 2 SB (20).

Julio Morillo: 1-1, SB (1). Equaled his career high in stolen bases.

Looking over the POD lists, and rosters - gonna be some new faces forcing their way up the prospect lists once this season is done. And a couple plummeting. Looks a net positive though.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Friday, August 30: Ismael Guillon, Dayton . . . 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K. Way to finish, big guy. In his last two starts, the Venezuelan lefty yielded just one grudging hit, total. In his last five starts, he gave up 11 hits and 11 walks (huge improvement, if you followed him early in the season) over 29.1 IP. He put up a 1.34 ERA in August. On the season, Guillon, who's 21, fanned 134 in 121.1 IP. The 95 walks, hopefully, are behind him.

    Also notable . . .

    Juan Duran (Bakersfield): 3-4, 2B, HR #16, 2 R, 3 RBI.

    Juan Perez: 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI.

    Juan Silverio: 2-5, 2 R, SB (5).

    Shane Dyer: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.

    Sean Lucas: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Tim Crabbe (Louisville): 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K. Only 1 ER in his two AAA starts.

    Kris Negron: 2-4, HR #5, 2 RBI.

Carlos Sanchez (Billings): 2-5, HR #6, 3 RBI.

    Aristides Aquino: 2-5, R, RBI, SB (5).

Gabriel Rosa: 3 BB, 2 RBI, SB (10).

Kevin Garcia: 1-2, 2 BB, SB (7) in his Pioneer League debut.

    Scott Brattvet: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Austin Muehring: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Michael Lorenzen (Pensacola): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

    Robert Ramirez (Dayton): 2-5, 2B, 3B, R, RBI.

Daniel Pigott: 2-4, BB, 2 R, RBI in the cleanup spot.

    Jon Matthews: 2-5, 3B, RBI.

    Beau Amaral: 2-5, 2 R, 2 SB (38).

    Sammy Diaz: 2-5, R, 2 RBI.

    Alejandro Chacin: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.
