Monday, June 24: Daniel Corcino, Louisville . . . 7.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K. A nice bounce-back for a high-rated prospect whose status has been fading fast. It's the first time all year Corcino has gone more than six innings, and the first time since the start of May he has lasted longer than five. A good sign.
Also notable . . .
Sharky Rogers: Returned from the DL with a short but sharp line of 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.
Jamie Walczak: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K in relief of Rogers for Pensacola.
Ben Lively: Recent draft choice made a promising debut with 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. He started a shutout that was completed by Nolan Becker, Nick Fleece and Robert Lewis-Walker.
Joe Hudson: The catcher from Notre Dame was 3-3 with a 2B and RBI.
Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-3, 2 BB, RBI, R.
Zach Vincej: 2-3, 2B, BB.
Sammy Diaz, 2-4, BB, RBI. Batting .345 in limited time for Dayton.
Junior Arias: 2-4, BB, R. Keeps rolling along.
Marquez Smith: 2-3, 2B, R.
Theo Bowe: 1-1, pinch-hit 3B, 2 RBI. His game-winner in the ninth marked (according to the Pensacola announcer) only the seventh time in 50 tries that the Wahoos have won a game after being tied through seven innings.
Jason Donald: 2-3, 3B, R, RBI, SB.
Nevin Ashley: 2-3, 2 2B, RBI.
Josh Fellhauer: 2-3, R.
Juan Silva: 2-4, BB, R, RBI, 3 SB.
David Vidal: 2-3, HR, BB, 2 R. Showing strong signs of coming around.
Carlos Sanchez: 2-5, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R.
Ty Washington: 2-3, BB, R.
Miguel Mendez (DSL Reds): 4-5, SB for the 20-year-old second baseman from Venezuela.
Raynar Guerrero: 4-5, 2 RBI.
Francis Guerrero: 3-5.

Quietly Juan Silva putting together another solid offensive year (check out that OBP). And he can play all 3 OF spots.
Bit of a crowd in the outfield out there, especially after Selsky kicked back from AA. I've always liked Silva's K numbers and his K to W ratio is very good (and remarkably consistent the last three years). What do we know about his defense? Any chance he can play center at the major league level?
I would have gone with Lively for last night's performance. 2 ER on 7 hits for Corcino may win the most improved award, but I think it's great that Lively got six Ks in three shutout innings so early on.
Corcino really needs to be given a bye for his year so far. He's a rushed prospect who needs some time at AAA. Next year will be a bigger test. Glad to see him with a good outing.
I don't think he profiles especially well there. Good instincts, but not great wheels. Probably similar to Choo, without the plus arm. What do we know about his defense? Any chance he can play center at the major league level?
Thanks. Looks like he's really taken to playing every day. 1.006 for June in 15 games; only .696 for May in 10. Should be enough AB's for everybody out there now; IMO Silva, Waldrop, Selsky, and Duran ought to be in the lineup every day. When they do move somebody to Pensacola [which could obviously use somebody], it'll be interesting to see if they go with Silva or give Selsky another shot.
Lutz is showing on the Louisville roster at the moment.
Tuesday, June 25: Israel Cuevas, DSL Rojos . . . 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K. Ordinarily, I'm reluctant to select a DSL player, because that league seems so remote and mysterious. But Cuevas has just about reached the point of ridiculous. The 19-year-old Dominican, a 6-1 righthander, has now made five starts on the season and has allowed runs (2) in only one of them. His ERA, over 30 innings, is 0.60. His control seems to have greatly improved from last year, when he made an unspectacular debut in the DSL.
Also notable . . .
Jesse Winker: 3-4, 2B, 3 R, SB. The organization's best hitting prospect had been in a slump.
Nick Travieso: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K. Nice rebound from a horrid outing.
Mike Saunders: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, Sv for the Dragons.
Joe Hudson: 2-4, 3 RBI. Hot bat at the moment.
Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-5, 3 RBI, R.
Travis Mattair: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R.
Brodie Greene: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R.
Josh Ravin: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, W in relief of Tim Crabbe, who had a decent start for Pensacola.
Trevor Bell: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, Sv. The former first-rounder of the Angels (2005) has now thrown nine scoreless innings for the Wahoos, giving up 3 hits with 11 strikeouts. The erstwhile big-leaguer is 26.
Cory Thompson: 3-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI. The young shortstop's career is off to a dandy start.
Juan Martinez: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K in relief for the AZL Reds. He's a 20-year-old lefty who fared decently last year in the DSL.
Kevin Garcia: 2-4, 2B. The 20-year-old Venezuelan, an outfielder, has reached .400 in the early going.
Steve Selsky: 3-4. The California League is no problem for Selsky.
Juan Silverio: 2-4, 2B, HR, 2 R.
Miguel Mendez (DSL Reds): 2-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, .397.
Diohanky Mejia: 2-3, 2 R, RBI.
Deyvi Burgos (Rojos): 2-4, 2B, 3B.

Wednesday, June 26: Billy Hamilton, Louisville . . . 2-4, HR (5), 2 R, 2 RBI, SB (49). His second RBI proved to be the game-winner. For all of his statistical shortfalls this year, Hamilton has demonstrated some of the power that many believed was problematically lacking.
Also notable . . .
Ryan Wright: 2-3, 2B, HR (6), BB, 4 RBI. Statistically, Wright probably deserves to be at the top of the post. But it's the California League, Bakersfield lost, and the other guy has the advantage of being Billy Hamilton. Wright, though, has proven this year that his breakout games are the equal of anyone's.
Yovan Gonzalez: 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R. The 23-year-old catcher, a product of Puerto Rico, is batting .331 for the Blaze in well over 100 ABs.
Zach Vincej: 3-3, 2B on a night when nobody else for Dayton hit much.
Phil Ervin: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI. The first-rounder checks in at .429 for Billings.
Avain Rachal: 2-4, 2 R.
Daniel Wright: The recent draftee out of Arkansas State (R 10, signed for just $10,000) put up a nice relief line of 3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K.
Cory Thompson: 2-4, BB, R. The teen shortstop, batting .417, has hit in all six of his professional games since being drafted out of high school in the fifth round.
Alberti Chavez: 2-5, R, 2 SB.
Logan Uxa: 1-3, 2B, BB, 3 RBI.
Ty Boyles: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. The hefty righty has looked sharp out of the gate.
Nevin Ashley: 3-4, 2B, R, RBI. Having a very nice offensive season (.895 OPS) for a catcher.
Josh Fellhauer: 2-4, R, RBI.
Ryan LaMarre: 1-3, 3B, BB, R, RBI.
Wendolyn Bautista (DSL Rojos): 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K. A 20-year-old righthander (born on my 41st birthday).
Henderson Peralta (DSL Reds): 3-5, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 SB. He's 22, which is old for the DSL, but a switch-hitter, which is handy.
Jacob Constante: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. The prize of this year's Caribbean class is sporting an early 1.54 ERA.

I believe he's a portly portsider. At least I hope so.Ty Boyles: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. The hefty righty has looked sharp out of the gate.
