One program note. I haven't included the team affiliations in the lists of notables, mostly because I didn't want to clutter it and preferred to focus on the players. I have noted it, generally, when it's a DSL or sometimes AZL player, because those guys are come-latelies and might not be recognized. My question is: Would you all prefer if I included the team on all the notables, so you can get a better grasp of them?
If the guy is a relative unknown, maybe you could add the affiliation. For most of the guys, by know, it is obvious and unnecessary. Thanks.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Wednesday, July 3: Jose Ortiz, Billings . . . 2-3, 2 HR, BB, 4 RBI. The stocky catcher, a Puerto Rico product who just turned 19, is batting .360 through 25 plate appearances. Last year, as a rookie in the AZL, he hit .359 in just 39 AB. Get this guy to the plate.

Also notable (unusually long list today, as the fellows played some ball) . . .

Adam Matthews, Dayton: 2-3, HR, 4 RBI. Just promoted from Billings, he clubbed a grand slam in first AB of full-season ball.

    Juan Silva: 2-2, 3B, HR (8), 2 BB, 3 R. Putting together another solid, little-noticed season.

Alberti Chavez: 3-4, R, 2B. Surprisingly promoted from the AZL, the not-quite-18-year-old second baseman, a Venezuelan, did his part in Bakersfield's 19-hit barrage.

Junior Morillo (AZL Reds): 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K. After four nondescript seasons in the DSL, he's doing well stateside. He came on in relief of . . .

    Michael Lorenzen: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K in the brief professional debut of the supplemental first-rounder.

    Juan Silverio: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R.

Steve Selsky: 3-5, 2 RBI, SB.

    Kyle Waldrop: 3-5, R, SB.

    Ryan Wright: 2-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R.

Junior Arias: 2-5, 2B, RBI, R, SB. His Bakersfield debut went well.

Jake Johnson: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Second straight excellent outing for the tall righthander (one of my favorites).

    Ronald Bueno (Billings): 3-4.

    Amir Garrett: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K.

    Ty Washington: 3-5, 2B, R.

Gabriel Rosa: 2-5, R, RBI, SB.

    Yohan Pino: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K. Plus 1-1, 2B.

Nevin Ashley: 1-1, 2B, 2 RBI. Tied the game for Louisville with his 2-out pinch double in the bottom of the 9th, then scored the winner on Josh Fellhauer's single.

    Ryan LaMarre: 2-4, HR, SB.

    Josh Smith: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.

    Humberto Valor (Dayton): 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI.

    Daniel Pigott: 2-3, 2 R.

Francis Azcona (DSL Rojos): 3-5, 2B.

Jose Siri (DSL Reds): 3-5, HR, 2 RBI. Tied for league lead in HR (5) and total bases (54).

Miguel Mendez, 3-5. Batting .389. Lefty-swinging second baseman, 20, leads the DSL in hits.

Derik Capitillo: 2-2, HR, 2 BB.

    Damian Taveras: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K.

    The other Junior Arias: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Thursday, Fourth of July: Shaun Ellis, Pensacola . . . 7 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Kind of fitting that a guy from Philly should take the honors for Independence Day. And a former Independent Leaguer, at that. Last year, Ellis was out of the game. This year, he sports a 1.74 ERA for the Blue Wahoos in six starts. Go figure. (As a reliever, he hasn't been nearly as good.) Quite a find, although at 6-4, 226, he's kind of hard to miss.

    Also notable . . .

Jacob Constante (DSL Reds): The club's big international investment for the year checks in with a 1.15 ERA after yesterday's line of 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K.

Sammy Diaz (Dayton): 4-4, R, RBI.

Daniel Pigott: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI, SB. The outfielder from Florida seems to be gaining some traction.

    Tanner Rahier: 3-4, 2 2B, R.

Ismael Guillon: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K. It's still early to say that his control issues are behind him, but the numbers are definitely trending in that direction.

Denis Phipps: 2-3, 2B. Plays good defense. Great arm. Decent speed. Hits lefties. Hmm.

    Jose Guzman (Billings): 5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K.

    Ty Washington: 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI, R.

    Phil Ervin: 2-4, R, SB.

    Steve Selsky: 3-3, 2B, RBI, SB. If Bakersfield ever gets a big-league franchise . . .

    Juan Silva: 1-3, BB, 3 R, 2 SB.

Juan Silverio: 1-3, HR, 3 RBI.

Junior Arias: 2-4, 2 RBI. So far, the higher level hasn't slowed him down.

Francis Azcona (DSL Rojos): 2-3, R, RBI. His daily listing.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Friday, July 5: Drew Cisco, Dayton: 6 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K. After a couple subpar starts, the young control artist has rediscovered his rhythm. In his last three, he has walked only two batters over 18 innings, with 14 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA.

    Also notable (in a weak field) . . .

    Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-3, 2 2B, BB, R.

    Shane Dyer (Bakersfield): 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.

    Ryan Wright: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R.

    Juan Silverio: 2-4, 2B.

    Juan Perez: 2-4, 3B, RBI.

    Kevin Garcia (AZL): 2-5, HR.

    Cory Thompson: first professional HR.

    Chad Jones: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. The former football star, a 225-pound lefty, had a smooth entry into professional baseball.

    Austin Salter (Billings): 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. His second scoreless 3-inning stint in four days. For the Mustangs overall: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K. His short stretch in Dayton was a different story.

    Ty Washington: 2-4. Batting .350.

    Jonathan Reynoso: 2-5, RBI, SB.

    Felix Perez: 1-3, 2B, BB, R, RBI.

Hector Vargas (DSL Reds): 2-3, 2 RBI, 2 SB.

    Pedro Damian: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K.

    Pabel Manzanero (Rojos): 3-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R.

Francis Azcona: 2-4, 3B, RBI, R. The day would not be complete without him. Batting .380.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Saturday, July 6: Nick Travieso, Dayton . . . 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K. Building on the strong finish in his last start, when his velocity picked up significantly, the Reds' top 2012 draft pick submitted his best outing of the season, by far.

    Also notable . . .

Michael Lorenzen: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. The recent first-round supplemental pick made his first appearance for Dayton, and was reportedly working at 97-98 mph.

    Jeff Gelalich: 2-4, 3B, R, RBI.

    Sammy Diaz: 2-3, BB, 2 R.

    Beau Amaral: 2-4, R, RBI, 2 SB.

    Tanner Rahier: 2-4, RBI.

    Joel Bender: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K for the Oak Hills HS product.

Billy Hamilton: 2-3 in his return to the Louisville lineup after sitting out a while with a wrist issue.

Mike Hessman: His 19th HR was the only scoring in Louisville's win in the second game of a doubleheader.

    Pedro Villarreal: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K.

    Nick Christiani: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

    Jamie Walczak: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. Unfortunately, the high point of Pensacola's doubleheader loss.

    Ben Klimesh (Bakersfield): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

    Kyle Waldrop: 2-3, 3B, BB, R.

Kevin Garcia (AZL): 3-5, R. The Venezuelan outfielder is flashing a .960 OPS.

    Logan Uxa: 2-4, 2B, RBI.

Luis Gonzalez (DSL Rojos): The young shortstop went 3-4.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Sunday, July 7: Chad Reineke, Louisville: 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K . . . At 31, Reineke is not the sexiest prospect in the room; not a prospect at all, you might say. But the tall Ohioan has been a godsend to the Bats this year, working 100 innings so far with a 2.86 ERA. In his last five starts--all between six and eight innings--it's 1.23.

    Also notable . . .

    Luke Moran (Billings): 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. The righthander, a 14th-round pick in last year's draft, has an early 2.66 ERA.

Ty Washington: 2-4, 2B. Looking good at .354.

Wandy Peralta (Dayton): 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K. The lefty entered after starter Mike Saunders faced only one batter (elbow).

    Tanner Rahier: 2-4, RBI.

    Emmanuel Burriss: 3-4, RBI.

    Jason Donald: 2-3, R.

Neftali Soto: HR #10, 3 RBI.

Yorman Rodriguez: First HR for Pensacola, 10th overall.

Juan Silverio: HR #10, 2 RBI.

Aidi Guzman (AZL Reds): 3-4, 2B, 3B, RBI. It was a career day for the big (6-4, 235) Dutchman, a 20-year-old first baseman.

Oviel Florentino: 3-4, 2 R, RBI for the 19-year old second baseman.

Jose Fernandez: 2-4, R, 3 SB. Another center fielder who can run a bit, apparently.

    Soid Marquez: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K.

    Jose De Sousa (DSL Reds): 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K. A 21-year-old lefty from Venezuela.

    Diohanky Mejia: 3-4.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Monday, July 8: Jackson Stephens, Dayton . . . 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K. He took over when Robert Stephenson reached his pitch limit. Stephens is a 6-3, 19-year-old righthander from Alabama, drafted last year in the 18th round. In limited work in the AZL in his rookie season, he had a pedestrian ERA but nice peripherals (22 K and only 3 BB in 21.1 IP).

    Also notable . . .

    Mike Hessman: 2-4, 2 HR (21). His minor-league homers now number 391.

Zach Duke: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. The veteran lefty is now scoreless in 10.1 IP for Louisville.

    Yohan Pino: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K.

    Robert Stephenson: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. His velocity didn't seem to suffer from the hamstring injury.

Tanner Rahier: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R. The second-year pro has 10 hits in his last five games for Dayton.

    Seth Mejias-Brean: 2-5, R, game-winning RBI on two-out single in 10th inning.

    Josh Smith: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K for the newly minted Southern League all-star.

    Yorman Rodriguez: 2-4, 2B.

    Ryan Wright: 3-4, HR (8).

    Chris Berset: 2-3.

    Juan Silva: 2-4, SB #15.

    Mike Dennhardt: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 8 K.

Aristides Aquino (AZL): 3-4, 2B, BB, R, RBI for the 19-year-old outfielder.

Dalton Carter: 3-4, R. The recently drafted Georgian formerly known as Michael.

    Yonaton Suero: 2-4, 2 RBI, R.

Junior Morillo: 5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K. The 21-year-old lefty, a Venezuelan, has fashioned an ERA of 0.92 over three starts and a long relief appearance.

    Franderlin Romero: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K.

    Hector Vargas (DSL Reds): 3-4.

Pabel Manzanero (DSL Rojos): 3-4, 2B, 3 RBI.

Luis Gonzalez: 2-5, 3 R for the young shortstop.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Tuesday, July 9: Werleen Taveras, Billings . . . 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K. The smallish (5-11, 170) righthander preserved his 0.00 ERA and got the win as he closed out the game and the Mustangs rallied late. For the season, the 22-year-old Dominican's line now stands at 11.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 13 K, all out of the bullpen and featuring a nice mix of fastball, curve, change, and poise. Taveras threw only a few innings last year in the AZL, but in 2011 he put up a 1.96 ERA in the DSL, mostly as a starter.

    Also notable . . .

Eury Cantalizo (DSL Reds): 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. It's hard to deny a starter who goes five no-hit innings, but Cantalizo has the advantage of being 21 years old in the DSL. His ERA stands at 2.33.

    Raynar Guerrero: 2-3, HR.

    Diohanky Mejia: 2-3, R. Batting .364.

    Michael Beltre: 1-2, 3B.

The Other Junior Arias: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. The DSL Reds played two.

Junior Arias: 2-4, 2 2B, 3 R, RBI. Quite possibly the most improved player in the system.

    Steve Selsky: 2-4, 3 RBI, 2 SB.

    Chris Berset: 1-2, HR, BB.

Juan Silverio: 2-4, 2 2B, R, RBI. A nice pickup, in spite of not walking much ("much" being a generous description).

    Carlos Contreras: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K.

Gabriel Rosa: 2-4, HR, BB, RBI, 2 R. Rosa played the role of a 6-foot-4 leadoff man and left fielder.

    Jhimmy Lopez: 3-3, 2B, BB, R.

Jose Ortiz: 2-run, game-winning HR for Billings in the ninth. It was the 4th HR in 36 AB for the just-turned-19-year-old catcher from Puerto Rico.

    Neftali Soto: 3-4, 2B, R, RBI.

    Sharky Rogers: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Holding his own in Triple-A.

    Jose Diaz: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, Sv (5). That's one save for every 60 pounds.

Definitely agree on Junior Arias. I don't think he made the Redszone top 50 this offseason. If he finishes strong in high A, I would argue he's a top 15 prospect going forward.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

    Wednesday, July 10: Seth Mejias-Brean . . . 5-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R. The second-year third baseman, who has actually been seeing a lot of time at first, paced Dayton's 18-hit, 12-run attack. Over his last six games, he's 12-23.

    Also notable (a lot of hitting, for a change) . . .

    Joe Hudson (Dayton): 3-4, 2 2B, BB, 2 R, RBI.

Sal Romano: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. That's three strong starts in the last four outings for the sizable New Englander.

    Jesse Winker: first-inning grand slam.

    Michael Lorenzen: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. In three short appearances as a pro, the recent supplemental pick hasn't walked a batter.

Sammy Diaz: 3-6, 2 R, RBI. Batting .341. In nearly 1,000 career plate appearances, the switch-hitting infielder has a .360 OBP.

    Jeff Gelalich: 3-6, 2 R.

    Armando Galarraga: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K. Nice return from the DL in Louisville's romp. ERA of 2.98.

    Felix Perez: 2-4, 2B, HR, BB, 2 R, 4 RBI.

Nevin Ashley: 2-4, HR, BB, 3 RBI.

    Denis Phipps: 3-4, 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI.

    Henry Rodriguez: 2-4, BB, 2 R, RBI.

Ryan LaMarre: 2-3, HR, 3 RBI. His 2-run homer won it in the ninth for Pensacola.

    Tucker Barnhart: 2-4, HR, 2 R.

    Travis Mattair: 3-4, 2 R.

    Brodie Greene: 2-4, 2B, SB.

    Chris Manno: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

    Danny Vicioso (Bakersfield): 3-4, 2B, R, RBI.

    David Vidal: 2-3, BB.

    Juan Perez: 2-3, R, RBI.

    Taylor Terrasas (Billings): 2-4, 2B for this year's 30th-rounder.

    Gabriel Rosa: 2-4, 2 R.

    Jonathan Reynoso: 2-4.

    Phil Ervin: 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R.

Aristides Aquino (AZL): 3-5, BB, 3 R, RBI.

    Jose Duarte: 2-4, 2 RBI, R.

Alberti Chavez: 3-6, 2B, R, RBI. The Venezuelan will turn 18 in ten days.

    Kevin Garcia: 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R. Batting .302.

    Oviel Florentino: 2-5, 2B, 2 R. A 19-year-old second baseman.

    Juan Martinez: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day

Thursday, July 11: Jesse Winker, Dayton . . . 1-3, HR (11), 2 BB, 4 RBI. Winker has only 2 hits over the past two games, but he has driven in 8 runs, 7 of them in the first inning. His average (.278) has taken a tumble lately, but he's still walking a bunch and the power is coming fast.

    Also notable . . .

Seth Mejias-Brean: 3-4, R, RBI. This follows his 5-5 the night before.

Tanner Rahier: 3-5, 2 R, RBI. The young third baseman is 14-30 over his last seven games.

Brandon Dailey: The just-turned catcher (anybody know how he's doing back there?) cracked a 3-run HR.

Daniel Corcino: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K. Three of his last four starts have been very good. In fact, they're among the top five of his 18 for the season. Encouraging.

Denis Phipps: 2-3, BB, scored winning run in ninth (driven in by Kris Negron's pinch single). He's 5-7 in his last two games.

    Neftali Soto: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI.

    Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. It was the ninth inning.

Tim Crabbe: 6 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. An outing worthy of his fifth MiLPOD award.

Corey Wimberly: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI. The HR (#1) leaves him three shy of his career high.

    Travis Mattair: 3-4.

    Donald Lutz: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 R.

    Brodie Greene: 2-4, 3B, R.

Ryan LaMarre: 3-run HR. That's homers in back-to-back games for the speedy CF.

    Ben Lively (Billings): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. ERA remains at 0.00 over 4 games, 12 IP (18 K).

    Daniel Wright: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

    Jon Matthews: 2-4, 2 SB.

Jose Ortiz: 5th HR ties him for Pioneer League lead with three others. Ortiz has 40 AB. The other three have at least 67.

Jon Moscot (Bakersfield): 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K. Not his best outing of the season, but in the ballpark.

Ryan Wright: 2-3, BB, R, RBI.

Juan Silverio: HR #11, a career high.

    David Vidal: 2-4, 2B, RBI.

    Logan Uxa (AZL): 2-5, 3B, 2 RBI.

    Cory Thompson: 0-2, 2 BB, 3 R. Just a notably odd line.
