I really don't think they're ignorant. They're in the business of viewership ratings, not telling what they REALLY think.

There is no way on earth Skip and Screamin' A. Smith truly believe what they spew on First Fake.

Bob Ley and "Outside The Lines" covered the Rutgers hoops coach thing like it was life and death instead a man throwing basketballs at his players.

ESPN is TMZ for dudes to quote something I think I read here on RZ.

ESPN logic: win 2 of 3 against Philly and sweeping the Cubs > winning the series against Angels and Nationals

Atlanta shouldn't be ahead of us and Washington should've dropped but hey, it's ESPN. i'm just surprised the Yankees aren't #1

At least ESPN delivers some laughs once a week. Last year, didn't they have the Cardinals at or near the top every week, with the explanation being "on paper they should be playing better than they are." You know, because that's more important than how they're actually playing.

I haven't heard a peep about the Reds on any ESPN TV or radio so far (with the exception of the normal SportsCenter highlights).

It's because they're from some place called "the midwest." ESPN is devoted to only covering teams on either coast.

ESPN doesnt cite it as a reason for dropping the Reds a spot, but the injury to Ludwick is a legitimate reason to drop the Reds down a spot despite their impressive series victories.

So what if the Reds are ranked behind the Nationals? Six games, no matter how they turned out or who they were against, should be altering rankings, unless there was an altering of the team. The Reds lost their cleanup hitter. Is it a shock that they dropped a spot in the rankings, a week into the season, when they lost their cleanup hitter for 3-6 months?

They have based the rankings on performance. And if you downgrade for injured players, the Braves should have a slight downgrade for the loss of Freeman. It's all subjective and meaningless, but ESPN could put just a little bit of effort into the list and their thought process.

    Re: Power Rankngs ESPN

I think there is some confusion here about whether the rankings are based on that previous week's performance, speculated future performance, or both. Nothing they wrote seems to allude to future performance.

However, rankings like this are silly and meaningless (albeit fun to discuss).

They were going to talk about them on ESPN this morning before I left for work.

I'm sure ESPN would look at all the discussion generated by its power rankings in this thread and on that basis consider the power rankings a success.
