Brewers Designate Blake Lalli For Assignment

By Steve Adams [September 19 at 4:27pm CST]

The Brewers have designated Blake Lalli for assignment to clear a 40-man roster spot for Josh Ravin, whom they claimed off waivers from the Reds earlier today, according to MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo (Twitter link).

Lalli, 30, went 3-for-24 with three singles for Milwaukee this season and is 5-for-39 in his brief Major League career. The catcher/first baseman has a much stronger track record at Triple-A, where he has a solid slash line of .268/.312/.420 with 19 homers in 651 plate appearances. Lalli attended Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. and signed with the Cubs as an undrafted free agent in 2006.

    Reds re-signed RHP Justin Freeman.
Freeman was designated for assignment by the Reds last month but is now back with the organization. The 26-year-old posted a 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8/2 K/BB ratio over seven innings with Triple-A Louisville this season. Sep 30 - 6:45 PM

I always thought he had a chance to try it as a pitcher if he couldn't figure it out with the bat.

and a number of international players from DSL or AZL.
    Are the names available?

Interesting re: Sierra. No real surprises otherwise.

Reds Re-Sign Five Minor League Free Agents

By Steve Adams [October 14 at 5:42pm CST]

Here are today's minor transactions from around the league...
•The Reds announced (on Twitter) that they have re-signed minor league free agents Justin Freeman, Ray Chang, Jose Diaz, Mike Costanzo and Kristopher Negron. Each played for Triple-A Louisville at some point, though Costanzo and Chang spent more time at the Double-A level. Diaz, in particular, was impressive for the Bats, firing 54 1/3 innings of 1.66 ERA ball with 9.9 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and 13 saves.

Reds right-hander Jose Arredondo, Angels right-hander Robert Coello, and Marlins third baseman Gil Velazquez have elected free agency under Article XX(D), according to Eddy (via Twitter). Arredondo struggled at the Triple-A level in 2013, posting a 5.87 ERA with 10.4 K/9 and 6.5 BB/9. Coello made 16 big league relief appearances in 2013 and put up a 3.71 ERA with 12.2 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9.
