Was curious as to why Burriss didn't suit up on Sunday.

The Reds have signed Italian amateur pitcher Davide Anselmi, George Von Benko of MLB.com notes. Anselmi, who was born in 1995, plays in the Unipol Bologna organization. The news of his signing with the Reds appears to have been broken by the Italian website GrandeSlam.net.

PITTSBURGH -- The Reds announced the signing of Italian right-handed pitcher Davide Anselmi. The Reds have been following Anselmi's progress since 2007 and recently saw him throw again at the 2013 MLB European Academies Tournament.

    ...

He has been a regular member of Italian youth teams and was invited to the MLB European Academy in Tirrenia the past two years. Anselmi will report as soon as possible to Goodyear, Ariz., where he will join Slovakian left-hander Jakub Izold, a fellow European Academy participant and new member of the organization.

350LB pitcher Jose "Jumbo" Diaz will join the Bats to take Freeman's place.

In the bizzare final game of last season, Jose Diaz, then with Indianapolis, was placed in to the game for an inning to play second base. He batted once, reached on an error, and then the 350LB pitcher stole third base. It was one of the most bizzare/funny things I have ever seen in a baseball game:

I guess they signed the Round Mound of Shutdown - Jose "Jumbo" Diaz - to avoid moving pitchers around organizationally. Who goes into Cingrani's slot in the rotation? My guess would be Chad Reineke.

Same guess from me. He took over for Cingrani yesterday and threw 4 innings, so it makes perfect sense.

    Cincinnati Reds
Signed: RHP Davide Anselmi, 3B Marquez Smith (released by Rangers, April 1)
Released: RHP Blake Hendley, RHP Matt Klinker, RHP Terrell Young, LHP Joseph Krebs, C Jordan Wideman, 2B Adam Muenster, 3B Shane Carlson, OF Dayne Read
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Justin Freeman
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Armando Galarraga, RHP Kyle Lotzkar, C Nick O’Shea, 1B Sean Buckley, 1B Carlos Sanchez
Reinstated from DL: RHP Brian Pearl, RHP Daniel Tuttle, LHP Chris Manno, 1B Neftali Soto

The Reds scouted 18-year-old Italian righty Davide Anselmi at the recent MLB European Academies Tournament, according to a Reds notebook at MLB.com.

Cincinnati took care of a little housekeeping with its string of player releases. All eight of the players listed here spent the ’12 season on the inactive list, and some hadn’t played in years, most notably Terrell Young, the top pick in the ’08 Rule 5 draft who retired in ’10, and Blake Hendley, the ’03 11th-rounder who hadn’t played since ’06.

    Re: 2013 Minor League Transactions

Lutz up from Pensacola to the Reds.
Ray Chang has just been moved from Pensacola to Louisville.
Reds acquired Mark Tehan for cash or PTBNL. You would figure he would be targeted for Louisville. That means Louisville is two over the player limit. Right? And Pensacola is now two under the player limit.
Mike Gilmartin is back up with Pensacola.
There has to be more moves.
Just noticed that Mark Prior has not pitched since April 21st.
