Yovan Gonzalez to the DL. Julio Murillo will be squatting behind the dish.
A summer watching a bad Reds' team, is still a pretty good summer.

The Cincinnati Reds have signed catcher Matt Kennelly to a minor league deal, according to a source. The 24-year old Aussie was released by the Atlanta Braves on May 14th after appearing in five games (.417/1 HR/4 RBI) for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Kennelly, who has spent his entire career in the Braves organization, has played in seven minor league seasons. For his career, he has hit .256 with 27 HR and 197 RBI in 490 minor league games.

After being hit by a pitch during spring training, Kennelly was sidelined for the first month of the season before making his debut on April 27th. Now healthy, he will either be assigned to Triple-A Louisville or Double-A Pensacola to provide catching depth in the Reds organization.

Wonder if he is related to Josh Kennelly, who is also a Red, also from Australia. They were born about 20 minutes apart. Brothers perhaps?

    Cincinnati Reds
Signed: C J.R. Reynolds (NDFA—Ohio), 3B Joe Jocketty (NDFA—Miami-Hamilton (Ohio)), OF Corey Wimberly (released by Braves, May 30)
Draft picks signed: RHP Ben Lively (4), RHP Joe Mantoni (18), RHP Daniel Wright (10), 1B Logan Uxa (32), SS Cory Thompson (5), OF Dalton Carter (17), OF Phillip Ervin (1)
Released: RHP Mike MacDougal, 1B Dominic D’Anna, SS Michael Gilmartin
Recalled: RHP Curtis Partch, LHP Tony Cingrani, 2B Henry Rodriguez
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Logan Ondrusek, RHP Pedro Villarreal, 2B Henry Rodriguez
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Wes Mugarian, RHP Robert Stephenson, C Yovan Gonzalez
Transferred to 60-day DL: RHP Ryan Kemp, 1B Sean Buckley
Reinstated from DL: RHP Jesus Adames, RHP Sal Romano, SS Jason Donald

Robert Stephenson’s upward trajectory with low Class A Dayton—he’s 4-0, 0.92 in his past six starts, with 50 strikeouts and five walks in 39 innings—will be interrupted as he recovers from a strained left hamstring.

The Reds signed a pair of undrafted Ohio college players after the draft who happen to be the progeny of Reds executives. Joe Jocketty, whom the Cubs drafted out of a St. Louis high school in ’09, is the son of GM Walt Jocketty. J.R. Reynolds, who previously attended Cincinnati’s Moeller High, is the son of pro/global scouting director Terry Reynolds.

    Re: 2013 Minor League Transactions

Wimberly's minor league numbers read like an older but slightly more productive Derrick Robinson.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

I am happy to see Yorman get the bump up but am nervous about Mather being released. When Mather was signed the Reds were 16-14. They have gone 27-14 since. Clearly it was the Mather effect which turned this season around.

Shall be interesting. That's a new group of teammates for Yorman. But I think he played for DeShields in both Billings and Dayton.

Early in the season. First two or three week I believe.
