Wednesday April 10th Minor League Game Updates

Louisville is hosting the Clippers of Columbus in the series finale. They trail 3-0 through four. Columbus scored three times in the fourth, aided by an error on the center fielder, Billy Hamilton. Columbus started the frame with four consecutive singles.

Mike Hessman has a double and Ray Chang has singled.

Armando Gallaraga has given up 5 hits in four innings of work. He walked none and struck out five. Of the three runs given up just two were earned. Update: Gallaraga worked a scoreless fifth. He walked the leadoff batter but nothing came of it.

Konrad Schmidt singled to left in the fifth but was subsequently erased on a double play off the bat of Ray Chang.

AG walks the leadoff batter in the sixth, ex-Red Jeremy Hermida. A line drive, with the runner going, ends up in the glove of Ray Chang who loops a throw to first to complete a 5-3 double play. Line single by the next matter marks the end for Galarraga. Riggleman signals the bullpen. Wilkin De La Rosa comes on. Nice running catch on a screamer by Denis Phipps ends the inning.

Negron leads off the bottom of the sixth. Hamilton grounds sharply to second for a 4-6-3 double play. Hamilton hit into all of two double plays in 2012. Henry Rodriguez sends one to the warning track in right where it is hauled in. Bats still trail 3-zip after six.

Line drive right at Phipps who attempts a shoestring catch unsuccessfully. Runner scoots into second. Sac bunt moves him over to third. One down. Fly ball to Perez in left, who lets go a strong throw home, holding the runner at third. Liner to Hamilton in center for out number three.

Seventh inning stretch time. Bats go in order in the 7th.

De La Rosa walks back-to-back batters with one out. He strikes out the next batter. But then allows a two-run double to deep center. 5-0 Clips. Wilkin being pulled. Mark Prior takes the ball. He induces a high fly ball to right to end the Columbus 8th. Bats need 5 in a hurry.

Ray Chang reaches first the hard way with two down. A 96 MPH heater off the forearm. Negron follows suit. Back-to-back plunks. Hamilton walks to load the bases. Pitching change. Henry Rodriguez swings and misses. 5-0. On to the 9th.

Prior gets a fly ball to right for one down. A walk and a force out follow. Two outs and a runner on first. Another fly to right.
Bats need five to tie and six to win. Perez takes a called third. Hessman grounds out. Fellhauer should have left his bat in the dugout as he took three called strikes.

    Bats lose 5-0.

Pensacola getting underway. Josh Smith will be on the bump for the Wahoo. Blue Fish will be facing David Holmberg, who hurled six shutout innings in his first start of the season.
Pensacola gets a leadoff single by LaMarre and a one-out walk to Bryson Smith but can't cash in.
Josh Smith came into the game with an ERA up over 14 and that looks like it is going to take a beating. Three straight singles start the contest against Smith. A Devin Lohman error and a walk are mixed in. The end result is 3 runs, 2 earned. 'Hoo down 3 runs after one.
Pensacola bats stone cold in the second. K. K. Pop out.
Josh Smith trying to reprise his opening frame. The Mobile pitcher leads things off with a single. Pop up for out number one. A walk places runners on second and third. A double plates one. A single plates another. Devin Lohman chips in with his second error in two innings. A line out and strike out and two are in the books. Pensacola trails by six.

Prior went an inning and a third for the Bats, giving up just a walk.

The Clippers have a pitcher named Bryan Price. He's pretty good at working with the other pitchers.

I'd like to see the Reds trade for him. He gets into trouble and it would be Bryan Price talking to himself.

    Louisville 24 runs in 7 games = 3.4 rpg.
    Pensacola 17 runs in 5 games = 3.4 rpg.
    Bakersfield 15 runs in 6 games = 2.5 rpg.
    Dayton 18 runs in 6 games = 3.0 rpg.

    Tough start for farmhands' sticks.

    Josh Smith's night is over. 6IP 6H 6R 5ER 2BB 2K. 17.47.
Kyle Lotzkar pitches the third, giving up two hits and a walk but no runs.

Pensacola threatens: Lohman singles, Smith is HBP, Lutz walks. Bases juiced but Mattair fails to come through.

Chance that Pensacola wins the game? Zero percent.
Chance that Pensacola scores? 50 percent.

Pensacola strikes for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Vidal walked and Brodie Greene homered. Lotzkar, LaMarre and Smith singled to load them up with two outs. Lutz whiffed to end the uprising. 6-2.

Lotzkar gives them right back. A wild pitch on a strike out, a strike out, a double, a strike out and a single produced two runs. The final out was scored 7-5-3-4.

Pensacola goes down in order in the fifth.
Lotzkar yields two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
After a ground out, a walk, a single, a double and a hbp, Lotzkar is replaced on the mound by Josh Ravin. Ravin induces an inning-ending double play.
Pensacola goes down in order again in the sixth.
Josh Ravin allows a walk and a single but keeps Mobile off the board in the bottom of the sixth. Pensacola trails 10-2.
Pensacola goes down in order once again in the seventh.
Stop me if you've heard this one before. Pensacola goes down in order once again in the eighth.
Josh Ravin pitched 2.2 scoreless innings. Loek Van Mil worked a scoreless eighth.
Pensacola needs a bunch here in the ninth.
Wahoo fall 10-2. They did get a ground single to center off the bat of Michael Gilmartin in the ninth.

Re: Wednesday April 10th Minor League Game Updates

Juan Perez grounded out, Waldrop and Yorman struck out. 1-2-3 for the Blaze in the top half of the first.
Carlos Contreras gives up a double and nothing else. No score after one full.
Juan Silverio reaches on a catcher's interference to lead off the top of the second.
Two strikeouts and fly out follow.
Contreras in control in the second- K, GO, K.
Blaze get a harmless single off the bat of Yovan Gonzalez in the third.
Two-out double, which Waldrop dropped and picked back up amounts to nothing as Contreras strikes out the side.
Yorman Rodriguez strikes out to start the 4th. Rodriguez and Waldrop have each struck out twice now. Silverio K'd. D'Anna lined out. 0-0.
Ken Griffey is celebrating his 63rd birthday tonight.
Visalia breaks through in the fourth. Three singles have produced one run so far. Contreras sits 92-95 as a starter per Blaze announcer. 7 Ks in 3.2 IP for Contreras. Make that 8 Ks in 4 innings as Contreras strikes out the side for the second consecutive inning.
Duran lines hard to center. Two well-hit balls but nothing to show for Juan. Silva tries to bunt his way on but is thrown out on a good play by the Rawhide third baseman. Sammy Diaz on the Blaze now. He taps one to the pitcher who throws wild and Diaz ends up at second. A hit and an error. Ground out ends the mini-threat. Both Blaze hits have been of the infield variety.
Visalia sends three up and Contreras sends them back to the dugout. This Contreras kid is looking good as a starter. Although it is early.

Wasn't he hurt in ST? So this would be a rehab assignment.

Rally. Waldrop grounds a one-out single into right. Yorman at the dish. Yorman grabs some bench for the third straight at-bat. Grounder ends the inning. I can't keep my eyes open any longer. I will dream about Bakersfield pushing across a couple of runs.

Ah, OK. Didn't realize he'd signed with Arizona. . . . Contreras has struck him out, FWIW.

Bakersfield succeeds in keeping their win column free of crooked numbers, moving to 0-7 after a 4-2 loss to Visalia. It was a close call, but the bullpen came through in the end, giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth to ensure another defeat.
