If they can somehow get a decent price for Choo, they should do it 100% regardless of anything Hamilton does.

    Re: Billy Hamilton

Getting off the Choo tangent. I saw the Bats and Indians on Monday night and came away with this impression.

He looked awful in his first two at bats where he struck out, but after the pitcher broke up a perfect game, he followed with a triple deep in the right field corner.

I'm fairly certain given where he hit it, and how shallow the RF was playing that most fast runners would have had a triple. I don't know how many would have a triple standing on third when the throw got to the 2nd baseman.

He struck out in his last at bat.

In the outfield, he looked a bit like Choo, a little uneasy, but caught everything hit to him. He also made a nice running catch in the alley in the bottom of the 8th that kept a 4-2 lead from disappearing (for the moment.)
When people say that I donít know what Iím talking about when it comes to sports or writing, I think: Man, you should see me in the rest of my life.

I almost reported this post but cut you some slack since you said "possibly".

He seems to be struggling at the plate. However, his 13 SB to 1 CS is encouraging.

As is his BB/K ratio, which is right on his career numbers. He had some issues he had to work on, especially from the left side of the plate. He clearly still needs to work on them, but that's why he's in AAA.

He's not ready now, but that doesn't say much about when he'll be ready,

It depends on how much money the Reds have in the budget. They are already spending big money at two of the corner positions (Votto, Bruce). I'm not sure it is a great idea to commit even more money to a third corner spot if it means having to skimp on up-the-middle position players and pitchers. What happens when guys like Bailey, Chapman, Frazier, Cozart, and Mesoraco start to get (more) expensive?

If the Reds can fit Choo and those guys in the 2014/15/16 budget, awesome. If not, it might be wise to let Choo be the one to walk.

    .194/.269/.286

I've seen him in about 7 games and he simply looks completely overmatched. I've seen 3 or 4 times where the bat is virtually knocked out of his hands.

At what point is he sent down to AA or A to get going?

It's too early to get overly-concerned about Billy. IMO. I'd give him another month and see if he adjusts. If they can fit Choo in if at all possible they should. If not, they should at the very least roll the dice and make him a qualifying offer on a one year deal.

At a minimum they'll definitely give Choo a qualifying offer. If they don't it's malpractice.

It's not just him, everyone at Louisville is struggling with the bat right now. Only 2 guys batting over 250, they are getting the walks, but just not hitting.

    He did go 2 / 5 today.

A lot of those guys weren't really expected to hit though. Hamilton, Fellhauer and HRod were the only guys I think people expected to hit who were under 28.
