Billy's line is up to .214/.272/.333...increasing rapidly the past 10 games. Along with 17 steals on the season. Need this kid to pan out for OF talent badly down the road for Reds.

I am not sure why they had that video of an inside-the-parker. That was from last season, I believe.

Hamilton's got more strength in his wiry frame than he's been given credit for. He's tall, too, and swings with a little leverage. Because he's such a gifted athlete, he's going to develop some line drive power over time. I don't think he'll ever be the EBH threat that someone like Jose Reyes has been, but he'll have more than slap capabilities.

The post above explains the definition, but it really means he hasn't been very good.

a number expressing a player's average effectiveness in making extra-base hits, calculated by dividing the total number of bases (from all singles, doubles, triples, and home runs) by the number of official at bats
Basically it is the number of bases a player gets each at bat through hits. the maximum value is 4.000. This would be achieved by hitting a homer and getting 4 bases per at bat.

    Re: Billy Hamilton

FYI, for a guy like Hamilton, a slugging percentage of .400 is pretty good. He's going to make his living by getting on base, taking extra bases through advancing farther on hits or by stealing bases which will eventually allow him to score a lot of runs. The key number for him is the middle number, which is the on base percentage. Below .320 and he's basically a pinch runner or defensive replacement. .320 to .340 or so and he can be a serviceable guy who gets on base, runs a little and does well situationally. .350+ and his running will make him a star.

The first number, batting average, is a component of both his slugging percentage and his on base percentage. A player like Hamilton should probably have a decent one to be effective. Something along the lines of .275 or better. Because of his great speed, pitchers are going to be loathe to walk him, so if he's going to get on base at an acceptable rate, he's going to have to have a decent batting average.

Not really. For Hamilton, a .400 slugging would be "good for him", but still kind of sucks. Fortunately, he can get extra bases by stealing them.

I'm not just saying this because Billy is struggling now, but I've always felt he was Dee Gordon 2.0. I really hope the Reds brass doesn't bank on him becoming anymore than a Derrick Robinson type.

Hamilton is noticeably bigger/stronger than Dee Gordon, which says a lot given the size that Hamilton is.
