Local College Basketball Player to Receive Pat Summit Award

If you've been following Lauren Hill's story, you know that it is both incredibly inspiring and devastatingly heartbreaking. She will receive the Pat Summit Award, presumably at halftime of her one college basketball game November 2nd at Cintas Center. That is going to be one special, special event.

Tickets for this game went on sale today and they sold out the Cintas Center in 30 minutes.

It takes a pretty special young lady to make both the NCAA and Ticketmaster look magnanimous. I'll be there. I have no direct connections, but this kind of bravery deserves the kind of support she's receiving.

This young lady is also seeing the same physical therapist as a friend of mine. You've got to love the optimism of someone rehabbing a minor knee injury while staring cancer in the face.

Really great thing. Amazing story too. Also one of these million sports networks should get their gear together and show that game on TV. I think there are a lot of us who like to see it.

My coworker and I were just talking about how we cried through almost the entire event yesterday while watching it on TV (or in my case, online). They did an incredible job putting all of that together for her and mad props to Hiram for being so willing to be part of it. What an amazingly brave and beautiful human being Lauren is and I can't help hoping for a miracle for her. No one should have to deal with such a horrible illness especially someone so young. *sadface*

I would have been almost happy to read that Lauren did not wake up today. I know that sounds bad, but she said that yesterday was the best day of her life, and I doubt she has very many good ones ahead of her. It's clear she's a fighter, and I know her family isn't ready to let her go, but she has more than done her part to bring awareness to her issue, and I hate to think of her suffering in the next month or so.

Lauren's story is one of those that come along rarely that makes you re-evaluate your own life and priorities, at least it has personally. How she is tackling such a horrific situation should be an inspiration to everyone. I hope and pray she can beat the odds.
