I agree. I've always liked Cozart in the 2 hole.

Anything is better than Heisey in that spot ... even Cozart.
Putting a hitter with an awful career .280 OBP in the 2-hole would not be a wise thing to do.
Since he is unwilling to put Votto second in the order, put Phillips back in the 2-hole and Frazier at cleanup.
Get your best hitters more at-bats and your worst hitters fewer at-bats.

Cozart has been two completely different players hitting 2nd vs other places in his career, stick with it and hope he can produce there until Ludwick comes back.
For what it's worth this is Cozart's career slashline batting 2nd:
.331/.370/.517
(That gives him an OPS of .887)
That .887 OPS would have led every qualifying SS in the league last year. On top of which he brings + defence to the table. I think putting Cozart in the 2 hole is easily the best place for him.

145 PA in the 2 hole, vs 467 PA in the leadoff role where his OPS is an ugly .641
It's kind of amazing, really, the difference in his splits from lead-off to the 2-hole. Clearly a much smaller sample size in the 2 but still.
Hopefully this will be a spot he can thrive!

This. At Cozart's age, he is who he is. But, considering Baker's options at the moment, hitting Cozart there for a few games while he is hitting well is fine.

Putting a hitter in a different slot in the batting order doesn't change his swing or his talent. Expecting different performance based on moving a guy in the batting order is crazy. It is just small sample size randomness.
It's been proven in study after study that some people perform better at their jobs when they're happy and comfortable. Baseball is no exemption to typical psychology.
His talent wouldn't change in the two hole, but it's possible that if he's comfortable there he could maximize said talent. Perhaps he can more often sit dead red with Votto following him. Perhaps he's just comfortable there. Perhaps there are other explanations. Some of it is probably randomness, but one should not be so dismissive of the psychological and strategical impacts on where someone bats.

It changes his approach and what pitches he sees, which is just as important for overall production as his skill. And some guys skills match up better with different slots. Hitters with patience do better lower in the order, as they are pitched around more. Agressive Fastball hitters do better earlier in the order, where they are more likely to be challenged.
I don't think batting orders matter much, except for this point, some guys hit better in different slots in the order.
