    Minor League Updates: Tuesday 4/16/2013

Louisville and Columbus are being delayed by rain.

Dayton goes down in order in the top of the first. Wandy Peralta takes the mound against Lake County.
Dragons fall behind 1-0 after one. Leadoff single, wild pitch, walk, single. The last play of the inning was confusing. There was a play at first and Peralta collided with first baseman Carlos Sanchez. Sanchez tagged the runner for the third out. And somehow there was then a subsequent throw home and the runner was called out there for out number four. Who knows? In any case Sanchez was injured, got up slowly and will likely be replaced by Nick O'Shea per the Dragons' broadcaster.

Okay the broadcaster went over the play. Men at first and second. Grounder down the first base line. Sanchez fields, collides with Peralta hustling over to cover first and tags the runner. The umpire called the runner out. Sanchez falls and is lying on his back. The runner from second heads home. Sanchez, unsure if the batter was out, throws from his back to Gomez who tags the runner for out number four.

Dayton sticks come alive in the top of the second. Mejias-Brean lines out hard. Gelalich lines a single to right. A wild pitch and a stolen base move Gelalich around to third. Junior Arias absolutely crushes one. 2-1 Dayton. Ramirez lines hard to right for out number two. Sanchez will stay in the game and is coming up to the plate. Sanchez lines hard to the second baseman who makes a leaping grab. However, there is catcher's interference and Sanchez is standing on first. Now O'Shea is running for Sanchez. Gomez Ks.

Peralta allows two singles and a wild pitch in the second. But no damage done. With one out in the top of the third Vincej squares to bunt and gets hit in the jaw area. He turned his head just enough that it was a glancing blow and he stayed in the game. Dragons fail to score.

Peralta getting touched up in the bottom of the third. Double, error on the second baseman, double. 2-2 tie game. Runners on second and third with nobody out. Grounder up the middle fielded by Vincej, whose only play is to first. Run scores. Line drive single. 4-2 Lake County. Bullpen gets up. Peralta puts out his own fire. 4-2 after three.

Dragons fighting back. Singles by Arias and Ramirez along with a double by O'Shea. It is 4-3 with runners at 2nd and 3rd. Rally fizzles.

Peralta does not make it out of the fourth. With two outs he picks the runner off of first but is called for a balk. The next batter singles up the middle. Peralta instinctively reaches out and deflects the ball behind Vincej who would have had a play on the ball. 5-3. Peralta out. Amezcua in. Castillo greets Amezcua with a bloop double to right. Runners on second and third. Wild pitch makes it 6-3. O'Shea makes a great diving stop and beats the runner to the bag. He either stepped on the bag or clipped the runner and is limping back to the dugout. This would make the second first baseman lost on a play at the bag if O'Shea has to come out. O'Shea did come out.

Laundry time caused me to miss the Dragons' half of the fifth. They scored a run to close it to 6-4. Amezcua is melting down. In six batters he has balked and thrown three wild pitches. Two errors haven't helped things. Three singles, at least, and a fielder's choice in which nobody was retired got thrown in. 9-4 Lake County. 6-4-3 ends the inning.

    Dayton falls 10-4.

Meanwhile, down in Pensacola, Josh Smith keeps posting crooked numbers, giving up two in the top of the first. Brodie Greene singled and rode home on Derrick Lutz's fourth long ball on the young season to tie things back up. 2-2 after one inning of play.

Josh Smith has hung consecutive goose eggs. With one out LaMarre and Greene singled. Bryson Smith doubled them home. 4-2 Pensacola. D. Lutz got hit by a pitch. Devin Lohman doubled Smith and Lutz home. Wahoo lead 6-2.

Smith stringing the zeroes. Four in a row. 6-2 Blue Fish.

Yohan Pino making his case for a cumulative MiPOTD. Two more scoreless frames. No hits or walks. One K. To date Pino now has pitched 11 innings. He has given up just three hits, no runs, no walks and struck out 11.

Jacksonville pushes a run across the plate and brings the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth. But Curtis Partch comes on and punches out the only batter he faces to earn the save.

    Pensacola wins 6-3.

    Donald Lutz.

    Derrick was a pitcher.

Bakersfield has Moscot on the mound. He surrenders a two-out double in the top of the first. IE cannot cash it in.
In the bottom of the first the Blaze start things off with back-to-back walks to Juan Perez and Ryan Wright. Two outs later, Joe Terry doubles both runners home. Blaze lead 2-0 after one.
Wow! The Empire strikes back with five in the top of the second. Homer, single, single, homer, single, double.

And those two runs that Bakersfield scored in the first would be all they got.

Recently-activated Brian Pearl pitched two perfect innings, striking out two.

I thought Moscot would have a big year, but man has he been rode hard and put away wet so far.
(Referring to Jack Hannahan signing with a Korean team)
Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.
