As of now, he's hitting .500 and his OPS is 1.250. Crazy stuff.

I really wonder what would happen. Would running around the OF be bad for recovering between starts?

His BA and ERA are going in opposite directions tonight -- rapidly.

.648 career OPS in 200 PA not including tonight.

Don't let the smooth taste fool you.

For a guy that barely ever gets to swing the bat I'd say that's pretty decent. Imagine if all he did was focus on hitting and fielding? If he weren't such a good pitcher (relative) he could have made it as a position player IMO.
I see great things in baseball. It's our game.

Reds current LF collective is sporting a .583 OPS

I agree that Leake is not an everyday MLB caliber OF but neither are Heisey/Paul.

Xavier Paul had 14 plate appearances this year. He is hitting .286/.286/.500.

I'm not sure I follow the slippery slope argument but it's more likely that those guys combine for a .700-ish OPS in addition to knowing how to play the position.

    Great? No.

Better than what Leake would probably put up? Very likely.

    I agree with you.

Leake wouldn't be an improvement over what we have. I was just trying to point out what we have isn't good.

    Tallest midget and all that.

    Pass

It's a nice to have when pitchers see him 1-2 times a year, but he's a pitcher not a OF nor a hitter that rates as good as a MLB OF

Meanwhile, Micah Owings is playing left field for Syracuse.

Last pitcher to hit a PH HR

The Reds had a pitcher named Red Lucas in the late 20's early 30's he was a great hitter... for a pitcher. In 1930 as a PH he had 39 ab's and hit .359/.432/.538

For his career he had 438 PH appearances and hit .265/.326/ .347

I don't think thats a good idea at all. He is a really good hitting pitcher but if he got consistent at bats I really think you'd see him struggle. I could get on board for him pinch hitting every now and again, though.
