Good hitters have bad months, bad halves, bad seasons. Right now Joey has had a bad couple of weeks -- and still has been on base very often.

Very, very early for this kind of concern.

I'm not at all worried about that. I am wondering if he's 100% healthy however.

Ha! Finally home to turn on the game and I hear one of my college room mates doing his "coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer" sales pitch! He's been doing that for twenty plus years now!

    So, what did I miss?

Votto tore the cover off the ball in the spring. He'll be fine. Just in a slump.

That did not look good. Phillips looked strange on that swing

Bingo. And in that slump he's still been on base 50% of the time. He's going to get caught up and have all the numbers people are used to by the end of the season. Which means he's going to go beast mode at some point, and probably for a prolonged period.

When Joey came back from injury last season, he still hit well, but just without the power.

I don't think the injury is bothering him. I just think he's in a slump.
