My goodness, how stupid. Does Daugherty get paid to write that?
It is ironic in a way. Joey Votto is a known fan of the Ted Williams approach to hitting, including having a copy of Teddy Ballgame's book on hitting. Williams was criticized during his career for not swinging at pitches outside the strike zone, a criticism which Williams demolished in that book and his autobiography, "My Turn At Bat."
Hmmmm.....whose advice should Votto take on hitting, Paul Daugherty or Ted Williams?
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."

Bill Peterson, former Post beat writer, thinks Joey is getting paid to set the table for Phillips and Bruce.
Most interesting stat from the article? Joey has driven in Tony Cingrani only one less time than he has driven in Zack Cozart.

The way the Reds are set up right now, Votto is a table setter because the guys in front of him don't get on base, except for leadoff hitter Shin-Soo Choo. According to Baseball-reference.com, Votto had 33 RBI in 318 plate appearances, during which there were 195 base runners, 101 in scoring position. The average major leaguer with 318 plate appearances has 33 RBI, coming up with 188 base runners, 93 in scoring position.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
They pay him to save Homer Bailey's bacon
