I'm not sure Hanigan is going to get his everyday job back, and that's coming from somebody who has supported continuing to play him.

Also, Corky Miller is a horrible baseball player. Awful.

Agree. This could be the end of Ryan Hanigan the starter, and I didn't think that'd happen this year or should happen, but Mes is grabbing the position at the moment.

That's a distinct possibility. The door is wide open for the Mesoraconing.

    But he's a spectacular human.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

That's great, but I hope Hanigan comes back in a hurry because any sort of playing time for Miller is bad news for the Reds.

Overstate much? I think a team can get by with a catcher going 0-4 once in a while.

Corky Miller may not be the best player around, but his facial hair is being inducted into the Reds HOF in 2015.

No. Corky Miller is an awful player. It's not overstating anything to say that.

You make it sound worse than it is though. He's simply the backup catcher and will likely only have that distinction for less than 2 weeks.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Well he did go 1 for 59 over a 4 season stretch and has a career OPS+ of 49, both of which is Tavarasesque.

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...illeco01.shtml

He does however, call a great game. This article says why many of us are Corky Miller fans.
    http://news.cincinnati.com/article/2...-lifetime-guy-

As catcher-sages go, Miller is a combination of Jake Taylor (bad knees, irreverent) in the movie Major League, Hall of Fame New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra (always funny, even when he doesn’t mean to be) and Crash Davis, played by Kevin Costner in the movie Bull Durham.
“I gave up a double (earlier this season in Triple-A),” Willis said, “and he came out to the mound, and I said, ‘Bad call on my part to throw that pitch.’ His response was, ‘No, it wasn’t. It was the right pitch. Just throw it better.’
Miller is renowned for paying more attention to the pitcher he’s catching that the one he’s batting against that night.

“He sees everything,” Willis said. “He’s helped a lot of guys. You might not like what he’s saying, but it’s the truth. I think that’s a lost art in this world.

“We’ve had a lot of in-depth conversations in Triple-A. I really believe that if it wasn’t for him helping (catching prospect) (Devin) Mesoraco the way he has, I wouldn’t have had the solid first half there that I did.’’

Mesoraco tells a story about Miller watching from the dugout earlier this year and detecting that Mesoraco was inadvertently tipping the pitcher’s pitches by the way his signaling arm was positioned. Miller knew every pitch that was coming.

“Quick learner,” Miller said of Mesoraco. “That was three months ago. I haven’t seen it since.”

I'm hoping that Dusty rides Mes hard while Hannigan is on the DL.

Corky is a last resort type player. I honestly hope he gets no starts if at all possible.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

I fully expect Corky to get a few starts. I don't want to see Mez get 15 straight starts as it would wear him down. And rewarding Corky for his great work in the system with a couple of games over the next two weeks would be a nice move as well. I fully expect his last AB to result in a homer into the gloamin' as he then goes back to the minors to play his role until September.
