    When Marshall Returns Who Goes?

I saw Marshall on TV playing on the sidelines with his son today.

Get the feeling he'll be back this week.

    If so, who goes?

On merit, it should be Parra. It's a good pen, and he's been least effective of those who remain IMO.

Hoover? He's pitching much better now, and I just don't get the feeling they want to send him out. But he has the option.

Ondrusek? Not going down after today's outing striking out the side.

Simon? Not going anywhere, nor is Lecure, Chapman, Broxton.

Unless somebody is hurt, this is a tough one. I'm guessing Parra goes down to get some innings. If he has to go through waivers, so be it, he'll clear. Second guess would be Hoover.

I would hope Parra, kind of expect Hoover, which wouldn't be the end of the world.

Should be Parra but because of options it might be Hoover.

Dusty trusts Hoover. Nobody trusts Parra. Hoover has pitched better lately, only one run allowed in his last 5 appearances and none in the last
    3. Parra should go.

Agreed on your scenario, but I still think Parra would outpitch Ondrusek over the course of the season.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Of course the Reds could argue that Parra is there for mop up and as a third lefty. So they could use his lefty status to keep him over Hoover.

I predicted Parra would make the team over Arredondo who I thought might get traded. Having watched Parra now, I think he should go to AAA and get some work in.

Despite a so-so beginning, this is a truly excellent bullpen (on paper). Chapman, Marshall, Broxton, Lecure, Hoover, Ondrusek, and Simon is really a good pen. A bit right handed, but so what.

And Arredondo, maybe Parra in the wings. And Cingrani possibly a reliever for awhile when Cueto comes back. Maybe Hensley or Freeman in an emergency.

    Quite a good group IMO.

Maybe, but Ondrusek has hot stretches. He did early in 2012 and at other points.

Right now, he may be on a roll. I don't know, but Logan did very well today.

So I think the Reds keep Logan for now, but with no guarantees for a long stay.

That's like saying Jack Black would beat Kevin James in a 100 heard dash. Someone gotta win, but it ain't going to be pretty.

Not sure why it wouldn't be Freeman.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

It is on the whole probable that we continually dream, but that consciousness makes such a noise that we do not hear it. Carl Jung.

Oh... my bad. Then, yeah, I'd hope for Parra. He simply has no role on the team.

Whoever goes, adding Marshall and subtracting the one who goes makes the bullpen better.

Short term - Send down Hoover. Get him a little bit of rest. Let him work on a regular schedule, one day on , one day off. Let him build up his confidence a bit. Once he is 'right' swap him back for Parra. Handy Manny has been awful.
