With the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. He's scheduled to make his first start on their home opener this coming Friday night.

    Good luck to him...

He obviously loves the game...his passion for it has always shown. I always enjoyed watching him over the years even with the Marlins. And dude can hit.

Not sure how he went south so quickly after his 4th or 5th year in the league. He's still only 31 years old!

Why hasn't anyone given him the chance to be Rick Ankiel? I feel like that guy could bring some pop off of somebody's bench, always a fantastic hitter.

He'd have to be willing too.

True. Do you remember if it was the Cardinals idea to turn Ankiel into an outfielder or his own idea?

Willis should try LF. Owings is doing it. Ankiel plays OF.

I always loved watching Dontrelle hit.

I think it was Ankiel's idea as he pretty much gave up on pitching.

Ankiel approached La Russa on Tuesday and said he had had enough of pitching. The organization offered him the opportunity to pursue a second career as an outfielder, and he accepted.

Wish him nothing but the best and hope he makes it back to the show. Was always a fan of him, it's fun to watch a guy play when it is so obvious he is simply having fun.

I feel that he'd bomb. Same with Owings. They looked great as hitters because they were pitchers and they were so much better than the other pitchers. I think on a regular basis as hitters....they'd be VERY sub-par.

Dontrelle Willis' arm just gave out. He was grabbing his shoulder as the trainer took him off the field.
    Well, that was brief.
