Oh man, I had completely forgotten about that. They used to break into World Series games with that horrible animated thing, to explain (in very corny fashion) what a curveball was.

Even my kid who was 5 at the time used to hate Scooter.

He's not as bad when he's doing national broadcasts.

Still not good, but not bad.

He's horrible on the local broadcasts.

Fortunately, McCarver is leaving FOX at the end of this season. Who do you think will take his place calling the World Series?

Well, unless they want to get a brand new team in there, it probably won't be Thom. Who does the games with Thom? He's probably the frontrunner.

    Eric Karros?

Also, Thom and Brantley are on the call tonight and they make one hell of a good tandem, IMO.

Statler and Waldorf vote thumbs down on that tandem

When discussing how appalled he was that the Braves and Reds don't find them objectionable, you'd have thought he was discussing the decriminalization of bank robbery!

When we hear newbie RedsZoners staking out that same position, keep in mind where it's coming from.
Adding to the list of things Thom - a 25-year broadcast veteran, mind you - is STUNNED by:

Why relief pitchers don't practice hitting and bunting more.

The low batting average across MLB on 3-2 counts a month into the season.

Just to prove I can say something nice about the guy, his call of Phillips' great defensive play was top notch. That's the type of thing he's good at.
