    Minor League Updates: Tuesday 4/23/2013

Dayton is playing a late morning matinee. Jesse Winker not in the lineup.

Vincej triples with one out and scores on a ground out by Jeff Gelalich. 1-0 Dayton.

Touted 19-year old Pedro Diaz will be making his initial start of the young season. Next in the Cueto line.

Double for Lugnuts. Dragons' broadcaster kindly said; "Arias may have misplayed that ball. He did not go back on it hard and then found that it was over his head".
Lugnuts get a runner on third with nobody out and fail to score. He was cut down at the plate on a nice play by Tanner Rahier (pronounced Ryer). Still 1-0 after two.

Diaz with a rocking chair third. Game moving right along. 1-0 Dayton.

Dragons stretch their lead in the fourth. Gelalich walks, advances on a wild pitch and scores on a Tanner Rahier double high off the wall in left. 2-0. Lugnuts rallying in the bottom half of the fourth. Single, wild pitch, balk (Diaz, from the stretch position, reached down and picked up the resin bag without stepping off the rubber. I don't believe I have ever seen that before. And since I am listening on radio; I still haven't.), single. 2-1 Dragons.

Pedro Diaz was scheduled to pitch five innings today and he is struggling to make it to that limit. After walking nobody for the first four innings, he has walked two here in the fifth with one out. Squibber down the line loads them up. The Lansing batter who hit the salami yesterday is up here in this situation. Diaz gets the needed double play ball but the second baseman Ramirez airmails the relay to first. Two runs scored. 3-2 Lansing. Tough break for Diaz. Pop to Rahier. Inning over. 3-2 Lugnuts.

    Pedro Diaz: 5IP 5H 3R 2ER 2BB 3K. Deserved better.

In the top of the seventh, Ramirez redeems himself with a bomb to straightaway center. Tie ballgame.

Dragons take a one-run lead in the top of the eighth. Mejias-Brean walks, moves up on a wild pitch and scores on a double by Junior Arias. 4-3.
Dragons' announcer bragging on the defense being played by Tanner Rahier today.

Sean Lucas comes on for the four-out save. ATOBTTD!

You trying to start a rumor? I mean, the Cubs are throwing a right-hander tonight. And there was a white male driving a red car south on I-75, headed for the Ohio line.

No rumor. But it seems odd that you would give a guy the day off when he is crushing the ball. And that car was clocked at under 110. So we can count out Aroldis Chapman driving to Dayton to pick him up.

You were right, td. The fifth inning was pushing it for Pedro. He even walked Balbino Fuenmayor. You just can't do that.

First of the year. One more, and he ties his career high. Guy's a mega-prospect.

If Pedro Diaz is in the rotation now, who is out? You figure Stephenson, Cisco and Romano are safe. Peralta started the 21st and did well. Guillon started the 22nd.

The plan was Peralta, but with Guillon's last two starts....

I'd give Guillon one more go before demoting him, as he's obviously a much bigger prospect than Peralta despite his control struggles.

Bakersfield is playing some day baseball. I had no idea.

Quickie recap to catch up on the game: Bakersfield trails 5-1 through six full. Dominic D'Anna is on the 7-day DL. Marquez Smith is playing his first game for Bakersfield today.

Sticks - Juan Silva has doubled. Juan Silverio has singled. Michael Gilmartin, enjoying his time in the Cali League so far, has a solo home run. One run for Bakersfield through six.

Arms - James Allen has not pitched well but deserves a little better. 5IP 7H 4R 2ER 1BB 1K. Pat Doyle has given up a run in his inning on the mound.

Glovers - Ryan Wright has booted a ball, leading to two unearned runs. Yorman Rodriguez has gunned down a runner at third.

Jimmy Moran has pitched two innings in relief, giving up a run. Bakersfield is up in the ninth, stuck on three hits.

Bakersfield went quietly into that good night. Two games in the book and I would venture to say nary an MiPOTD candidate.

Louisville is back home, hosting Gwinnett. Pedro Villarreal is toeing the rubber. Dollar dogs and dollar pepsi tonight.

Hamilton walks, Perez singles him to third. Soto grounds into a twin-killing to end the threat. No score after one.

Hessman doubles. Henry Rodriguez singles him home. 1-0 Bats.

Villarreal gives up a solo blast to Terdoslavich in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half of the fourth Felix Perez leadoff doubles but is stranded. He is now hitting .305 with an OPS of .894. 1-1 after four.

Villarreal has had a solid start to 2013: 2.52 ERA (including his six innings tonight) 17/2 K/BB in 25 innings.

Louisville with a promising start to the home half of the sixth. Donald singles. Perez, on for the third straight time, walks. Soto 'Phillips' again. Hessman flies out. 1-1 after six.

    Villarreal through for the night: 6IP 6H 1R 1ER 0BB 4K.

Christiani pitches the seventh and gives up a solo jack. Bats trail 2-1. With one out and Henry Rodriguez on second, Mike Hessman flies into a double play.

Don't attempt to adjust your set, that is 300-plus pounds of Bats' reliever on the mound. Jose Diaz made the mound miserable but pitched a scoreless eighth. Bats' bats need to come alive here.

Wirfin Obispo pitching the eighth for Gwinnett.

Jose Diaz was excellent. Two inning of shutdown baseball. He gave up a walk, a hit and struck out four to snag the victory.

First two Bats' hitters in the ninth were retired, before Henry Rodriguez slapped his third hit of the night. Emmanuel Burriss followed suit. Konrad Schmidt then singled to right and, combined with a Terdoslavich error, pushed the tying and winning runs across the plate.

    Bats win. 3-2.

Pensacola on the board early as Ryan LaMarre goes deep to lead things off for the Wahoo.
They lead 1-0 after one. Tim Crabbe shelling out the pitches for Pensacola.

Vidal, LaMarre and Greene with singles in the next two innings but all went for naught. 1-0 after three. Tim Crabbe stringing pearls.

Free baseball for Pensacola. They have managed just one hit in their last eight trips to the plate, a double by Theo Bowe.

Wahoo pitching has been very good tonight.

Tim Crabbe 7IP 6H 1R 1ER OBB 3K. Shaun Ellis, Lee Hyde and Drew Hayes have shut down the Generals of Jackson from the eight inning on.

Bats rally in the 9th, and win on a Konrad Schmidt 2-RBI walk off single.
