I just heard on the FSN broadcast they are going to take a few days to evaluate the injury before they make a move.
And I expected him to packaged to someone at the deadline.

I guess this thread moves up to the ORG, like Lutz.
This kid is like Juan Francisco, they obviously see beyond the numbers with him. Let's hope his attitude holds up as opposed to Francisco's.

#Reds have announced that Donald Lutz underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery after injuring his elbow last week.
I think Lutz drew the short straw. Team doctors wanted to do a practice Tommy John surgery, before Homer underwent the knife.

http://www.theabl.com.au/news/articl...4065&sid=t4065Outfielder Donald Lutz has a minor league deal to return to the Reds, Alexis Brudnicki reports. Mark Sheldon of MLB.com adds on Twitter that Lutz won’t get a camp invite in the agreement. The first player to reach the majors after coming up in German baseball, Lutz was released by Cincinnati last summer after undergoing Tommy John surgery but has been playing recently in Australia. Brudnicki provides a full update on his recovery, as well of plenty of other interest insight, in the above-linked piece.
The 26-year-old outfielder re-signed with the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday after spending the last eight years with the same organisation that took him out of Germany as a free agent wildcard and turned him into a big leaguer.
"It's cool," Lutz said. "I appreciate all the work they've done for me and I've got a good relationship with them. They've always treated me well, from Day 1 when I came in 2007, and it's a good group, with good leadership, and I'm just excited to go back there…
"I was talking to other teams and for this year this is the best option. They [have moved] a lot of players and I'm comfortable with them, so hopefully it will open up an opportunity during the year…I'm glad they're still interested in me and they still like me, so this should be a good year.""Then the doctor gave me the option - he said I could try to rehab for three or four months, let it scar over and go from there - and then it could be good to go or it could still rip at any point again. It was so early that I knew I would be 100 per cent again for spring training [with surgery] so I said, 'Let's just get it out of the way.'"
The decision wasn't an easy one for the American-born native of Germany, who had hopes of another call-up to the majors after spending time there during both of the previous seasons, but also knowing that the sooner the procedure could be done, the more quickly he could return.
"For my career it was probably the smartest thing to get it out of the way and be ready for spring training," Lutz said. "About a month later they called me and they had to take me off the [40-man] roster…It wasn't too bad because my contract and everything was still good and it was my last year so I wouldn't have played anyway.
"It sounded really bad and I appreciated everybody calling me but I told them either way I'm not going to play this year and I'll be in the same situation where I have to go into spring training somewhere and make a team. It was just a bummer that I couldn't play this summer. It really hurt."

Video of Lutz hitting a screaming liner HR in the Aussie league. I've watched a couple of games streamed over YouTube and Lutz appears to be swinging the bat well. Of course coming off the surgery I would say he also has to prove to be able to throw well enough to get back into the picture for LF. The games I have seen he played 1B and DH'd. His team is going to be in the ABL championship next weekend, and it was said to be televised on ESPN. If starting game times are similar to regular season that would put them in the 4am neighborhood. Also of note, it was stated that Lutz intends to go from Australia straight to Germany to train with the German team for the WBC, so he'll be a late arrival for spring training. That could be why his signing did not include a invite to camp with the Reds. Best possible scenario for Lutz would be to go to Louisville, play LF and get regular ab's for the majority of 2016. He's at best a long shot to ever have a sustained MLB career, but he needs PT badly.
