Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - April

In what I am certain many will feel is a controversial (bone-headed) decision, I am leaving Tony Cingrani out of the equation. Yes, he was completely dominant in his three starts. However, he only pitched half a month in the minors. Boo me if you must. Woo me if you will. I can see both sides of the discussion.
I also left out Robert Stephenson despite is excellent 31/8 BB/K. His other numbers were poor to say the least.

On the bright side, there were plenty of very good starters in the Reds' farm system for the month of April.

I think with this pitching depth Walt is really setting himself up to make a big trade or two at the deadline. Let's hope they keep it up. the strikeout numbers are going to fetch some big bats.

All good candidates--especially, for me, Cisco, Contreras, and Rogers. But I'm strongly predisposed toward Cisco. That 30:1 K:BB is simply extraordinary. The WHIP is outstanding. And he's put in a lot of innings for a guy with some injury history. On top of all that, it's his first extended professional experience. Seems like a slam dunk.

I agree on leaving TC out...we all know what he did but he is a big leaguer now. Give someone else a chance to win a vaunted RZ award. Stephenson's start doesn't worry me...the right numbers are right and he's been victimized by poor D and some squibbler hits. Still the numbers don't add up to the vainglory that is a RZ POM Award!

For me its between Cisco, Galarraga and Rogers....I lean toward the Sharkster

I went with Romano. He has been insanely unlucky on infield hits this season, I believe he has been victim of 6 already. He has a 64% groundball rate and for the most part, just seems to have guys off when they are facing him.

Drew Cisco, Chad Rogers and Carlos Contreras also warrant plenty of support.

IIRC, the draft day scouting report on Cisco was that he was extremely polished, but his FB left little margin for error. Is there a report on velocity post operation?

I know it's small sample, but I can't pick against a 30:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Oh I promise you that you could have. I see the other options. They are there Rick, you just would have had to click on them.

I refuse to accept your boneheaded decision.

Three starts is only one fewer than most guys. Most of the starters in the Reds system only had four starts in April. Only three starters logged more than four starts in the Reds upper minors.

Are we really going to disqualify the most dominant starter in the Reds system because he missed a start?

    Not me mister.

I'm casting my vote for: Other - Tony Cingrani.

I encourage others to do the same.

    ANARCHY!!!!!!

I skipped over Cingrani because he's in the majors but he is clearly the best.

Carlos Contreras with more K's than IP and putting up those numbers in a bandbox.

These arms are looking very promising. Need to deal a couple for an upper level bat.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
