    Minor League Updates: Wednesday 5/01/2013

Pensacola: Hosting the Biscuits of Montgomery.

Sharky Rogers is on the bump. He pitched a scoreless top of the first, giving up one hit and striking out a batter. Rogers retired the side in order in the second as well as the third. He has now retired eight in a row.
Pensacola loaded the bases with one out in the second but failed to cash in.
Sharky finally allows a runner to score in the sixth, breaking a scoreless tie. The run was unearned due to an error on Travis Mattair. Rogers is finished for the night. 6IP 4H 1R 0ER 1BB 7K. Loek Van Mil came on and surrendered singles to the first two Biscuits he faced in the top of the seventh. He was promptly hooked and replaced by Chris Manno.
Meanwhile back at the bat rack, not much happening for Pensacola. Singles by Selsky and LaMarre and that's about it. Wahoos trail 1-0 in the top of the seventh.
A grounder delivers a second run for Montgomery as they lead 2-0. Mattair singles in the seventh. Bryson Smith singles in the eighth. Neither hit leads to a run. Heading into the ninth, Pensacola trails 2-zip. Kyle Lotzkar on. Lotzkar with a scoreless ninth.
Pensacola bats need to come alive. Two to tie, three to win.
Tucker Barnhart sends one over the fence in the ninth but it it is too little and too late.
    Pensacola falls 2-1.

Dayton is on the road at Clinton. The lineup has been all shaken up. Robert Stephenson takes the ball for the Dragons.

Dayton has not scored in their first three go-rounds. Jeff Gelalich and Junior Arias have singles.
Stephenson faced the minimum through two (he walked a batter but picked him off) but has given up a pair in the home half of the third with Clinton still at the plate. Another Clinton runner crosses the pay station and they lead 3-0 after three full.
Dayton has bounced back with two runs in the top of the fourth and are still batting. O'Shea singled, Hudson walked, Arias reached on an error that plated O'Shea, Mejias-Brean hit a sac fly, Arias stole second, Petersen was plunked and that was all for the LumberKing starter. Pitching Change. Dragons trail 3-2 with two men on and one man out.
Dayton and Clinton in a slugfest. Dayton leads it 9-6 in the home half of the seventh. Dragons have benefitted from six, yes six, unearned runs.
Stephenson's line: 5IP 5H 4R 4ER 4BB 4K. Wes Mugarian has been ineffective in his inning plus. Ben Klimesh is not on for the Dragons.
Arias is 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and two driven in. Seth Mejias-Brean is 1 for 2 with a walk, a sac fly, a double and 4 ribeyes.
Dayton scores in the top of the eighth - Vincej double, Amaral sac fly. Clinton answers with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Dayton posts another run in the top of the ninth - Hudson doubles, Arias triples but is thrown out at the plate trying for an inside-the-parker. Dayton leads 11-7 as Sean Lucas enters the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Nothing comes easy as Clinton has two runners on with two away. Jordy Lara lines hard to Beau Amaral in left. Dragons hang on 11-7.

Tanner Robles gives up a first-inning run. It's early out West, as Bakersfield trails 1-zip in the second. Kyle Waldrop has singled for the Blaze. Robles gives up a single, a wild pitch, a walk, a hits batsman and no runs in the second, giving the fans a cheap thrill. San Jose strings a trio of singles for a second run. Bakersfield is stringing goose eggs. Two hits through four, both singles by Waldrop. 2-0 Blaze trails.
Bakersfield scores single runs in the fifth and sixth. And then tacks on four more in the eighth to jump out to a 6-2 lead. They hang on when San Jose scores twice in the bottom of the ninth to win 6-4.
Pat Doyle pitched three scoreless frames. El'Hajj Muhammad hurled a scoreless eighth. Mike Dennhardt was roughed up for two runs. Brian Pearl came on to record the final out.
Eleven hits were pretty well spread throughout the lineup- ten singles and Marquez Smith's third long ball of the season. Juan Silverio drove in three.

Nice to see the Dragons pull out a win on that one. BTW - http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp..._t459&sid=t459 - word has it that Johnny Cueto may be pitching for the Dragons on May 8th in Dayton on a rehab assignment.

Too bad Louisville is loaded with starting pitching or Rogers might get moved up mid-season.

If he's ready, move him up anyway. Jouneyman minor leaguers like Reinicke and Pino need to step aside when a kid needs a spot at the appropriate level.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I agree. It will be interesting to see when they move him. He's had 62.1 innings now at Pensacola, BA against around .200, 49/14 K to W, ERA around 1.7. He is, IMO, pushing himself seriously into the Reds rotation picture. In fact, if we had one more injury in the big league rotation right now, would we really go to Villareal, Reynolds, or Reineke over this guy (roster considerations aside for a moment)? I'm starting to wonder too if this isn't the guy who enables us to trade Leake next year without resigning Arroyo and without losing the depth we need. Could next year's rotation be Cueto, Latos, Bailey, Cingrani, and Rogers?--with a journeyman pickup for a 6th and the hope Corcino emerges to be in either the 5th or 6th spot as the season progresses.
