And the big question is, who would the Reds give up?
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Is it possible that the Marlins got the better end of that trade? What a disaster.

Like someone pointed out, the Blue Jays DID pick up a bunch of guys from a team that lost 98 games last year. Weird how that's not working out now.

The offense has a combined .262 BABIP. That isn't going to last. When it does correct itself, the offense is going to pick up big time. Not that it will matter if the starting pitching doesn't drastically improve. What a mess that rotation is right now.

I think they will get better too, but in historical terms, their playoff chances are already looking really slim.

It is May 4th and they are 11 back.

The 1995 Mariners were 11.5 back on August 24th and made the playoffs.

    There is plenty of time.

When teams fall out of the rsce , they trade FA's to be.

If the Reds fell out of the race, would we figure we have to trade Votto, Chapman, Bruce, Phillips, Cueto, Latos, etc.

    Of course not.

    Nothing here, move along.

That's like saying based on Xavier Paul's one at-bat this year in which he hit a Grand Slam he should be an all-star. Talk about cherry-picking your data. One data point?

Doug, surely you can acknowledge the Jays are in serious, serious, trouble.

I'd certainly move Phillips and Bruce for a very good offer if they fell out of it.

Sure they are in trouble. But teams have come back from larger deficits in a whole lot less time.

That is totally true. But the odds are very slim if we looked at it statistically. Saying "x did it before" doesn't really say much.

If I'm Toronto's GM, with deep regret, I am making plans on missing the playoffs this year. I'm not gonna let someone rip me off, but I am making decisions based on the belief they miss the playoffs. And you can do so without throwing in the towel right now...but a good GM needs to be realistic and weigh the odds on every move.
