    Minor League Updates: Monday 5/06/2013

Dayton has brought the heavy lumber today against Kane County. They have scored in each of the first four innings today. The heaviest blows have been three-run home runs by Winker (3) in the first and O'Shea (2) in the fourth. This has resulted in an eight-run outburst by the Dragons and an 8-1 lead. The beneficiary of all the robust hitting is Sal Romano, who has allowed just one run in three innings of work.

Dayton stretched its lead to 11-1 and then hangs on to win by the final score of 11-8.

Romano went 5 full giving up four runs. Joey Housey, just up, went two giving up a run while striking out three. Alejandro Chacin gave up three runs in his stint and Sean Lucas came on for the one-out save.

Zach Vincej knocked out three hits to raise his average to .275. He has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 outings, hitting at close to a .400 clip over that span. Petersen, Winker, Mejias-Brean and Ramirez with a pair of hits each. Winker and O'Shea went deep.

Romano went five, leaving an 11-4 lead with a character named Joey Housey. Winker is 2-4. Vincej, Mejias-Brean and Robert Ramirez also have two hits.

Housey went two innings, giving up a run on a hit, three walks. He struck out three. Housey, drafted in the 27th round, was mainly a reliever in Oregon. He was also drafted by the Reds out of high school.

A video of Housey in action. Here's hoping that radar gun reading is off a bit.

Hard to find much on this guy. I saw where a Cubs' scout by the name of Joe Housey was recently fired. Sure there is a connection there somewhere.

Joey Housey, RHP, R/R, 6-2, 188, Hollywood, Fla. (Nova)
Scouting Report: Threw a no-hitter in his first high school start ... Won the 2006 Power Showcase home run contest (overall homers) with 33. Very polished starter with power curveball. Brother John is a sophomore pitcher at the University of Miami ... Father scouts for the Chicago Cubs.
    High school scouting report:
Joseph Housey is a 2008 RHP/1B with a 6'3'', 190 lb. frame from Hollywood , FL who attends Nova HS. Joseph has a strong and athletic frame with room to fill out. He hits from a open stance, and looks to pull the ball. He has gap pop on the inner half of the plate, with a line drive swing plane and good bat speed through the zone. He has a slight reverse load, explodes off of his back foot and flashes a plus swing. On the mound he has a athletic presence and has great composure. He throws from an over the top arm slot with three pitches. His fastball topped at 85 mph and there is more velocity to come. His curveball has tight rotation with depth. Very projectable body and arm. Struck out six of the nine hitters he faced. He knows how to pitch, and he challenges hitters. Joseph is also a good student.

Louisville's offense pushes a run across in the first and then calls it a night as the Bats lose 4-1. Henry Rodriguez had a pair of singles. Felix Perez chipped in with a single and a double.

Chad Reineke pitched five scoreless innings before wobbling in the sixth. His final line: 5.2IP 6H 2R 2ER 3BB 7K.
Kevin Whalen allowed two runs in his inning of work.
Jumbo Diaz still has not given up an earned run in 2013 as he worked a scoreless eighth.

    Louisville falls 4-1.

Bakersfield coughs up a lead late out West and the Blaze goes down in flames 4-3 in 10 innings.

Carlos Gonzalez, making his first start for the Blaze, fanned seven batters in 3.2 innings of work before reaching his pitch count limit. Wes Mugarian, up from Dayton, pitched a scoreless inning in his AA debut. Brian Pearl blew the save and Kyle McMyne took the loss.
The hitting was up to par, meaning not very good. Bakersfield collected all of four hits in ten hitting. They did, actually, manage to take a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Waldrop had a two-run double. D'Anna also doubled in the game. Singles by Joe Terry and Juan Duran comprise the hit list. Duran also walked twice. The big fellow is now up over .250 on the season.

    Bakersfield loses 4-3.
