# Thread: Can someone explain ....

1. ## Can someone explain ....

Can someone explain the stat IsoP? Is it the same as ISO? I realize it is a power stat but haven't wrapped my head around it and what a good level is or means?

Thanks

3. ## Re: Can someone explain ....

They're the same thing. SLG-BA. Although some places give triples the same weight as a double since it's more of a speed generated base than power.

4. ## Re: Can someone explain ....

IsoP = isolated power, SLG-AVG.

It's usually written that way if it is introduced alongside IsoD, which is isolated plate discipline, or OBP-AVG.

OK. Is higher better or does that simply reflect that someone doesn't hit for average as well as power? Ex a 200/200/ 500/ 700 guy would be an ISO 300 but a 300/400/500/900 guy would only be an ISO of 200. I assume Dunn and Wily Mo had a much higher ISO than Votto. Is it a stat simply to be used in conjunction with other numbers?

It basically just lets you know how often a players hit goes for extra bases. Really doesn't carry much weight on its own.

7. It's probably the simplest way of measuring just a guys power. It's not an aggregate measure of production in any real sense, so don't think of it from a value standpoint. It's most useful as a skill estimate.

Chris Carpenter is having a hard time explaining this to his son.

Thanks all. tonight's question: Why isn't it a sac fly if the runner advances but does not score?? ex 2nd to 3rd. There is no such differentiation with a sac bunt.
