    Minor-League Updates: Wednesday, 5-8-13

Pensacola plays in the sun today. Ryan Dennick, through four, is basking in it, surrendering just two singles and fanning three, with no walks. It's 0-0.

If there is no mention of the offense, I am guessing there hasn't been much.

Dennick leads the way in that department, too, with the only extra-base hit. The new guy, Joe Mather, bats cleanup, though not with any discernible degree of menace.

Ryan LaMarre leading the way at .252. 4 through 8 hitters all below the Mendoza Line. It is getting too far into the season for that particular brand of nonsense.

Mather doubled in LaMarre to tie it 1-1 in the top of the eighth, but Shaun Ellis couldn't hold it there. It's now 3-1 Jacksonville.

Shaun Ellis, the itinerant Indy League vet picked up over the winter, coughs up the winning runs.
Dennick went 6 fine, giving up a lone run on five hits. He did not walk a bitter while striking out four.
Offensively, two hits for Mattair, two for Mather, Dennick doubled and LaMarre, Greene and Vidal had single safeties.

Pensacola succumbs by a score of 3-1.

Dayton is hosting the Lugnuts of Lansing. After a half inning of play there is no score. Stephenson is on the mound for the Dragons. He has allowed a triple and struck out one.

Louisville will be at Lehigh Valley tonight - maybe. The game is being delayed. Hamilton is sitting.

Maybe they should delay every game as the Bats have come out smoking, posting a crooked number in the first. With one away, Rodriguez doubles. Soto and Perez follow with singles. After a ground out, Hanigan and Negron both single. When the dust clears it is 4-zip Louisville and Greg Reynolds is smiling.

Not sure if the Dayton weather will hold up, but the Dragons are enjoying it while it lasts. Behind Stephenson, it's 8-0 in the third.

    Stephenson: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K.

    O'Shea: 2-2, HR, 4 RBI

Stephenson is strutting his stuff, tacking on two more scoreless frames. 2 hits, 0 walks and 7 strike outs through five shutout innings.

Dragons are at it again. A single by Vincej is followed by three consecutive walks. 9-0.

97 mph fast ball here in the 6th for Stephenson. Through his first 5 innings he had thrown 58 pitches, 45 of them strikes.
Breaking ball called strike three. 8. 3-2 change for a strike out swinging. 9. Single to left then force out to short. 9-0 after six. That is probably all for Stephenson in a brilliant performance. 6IP 3H 0R 0ER 0BB 9K.

Dragons continue to pour it on in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Arias triples, his third hit of the game, and Tanner Rahier leaves the yard. Dayton leads 11-0 after six full.

Iron Pigs trying to creep back into the game with single runs in the fourth and sixth. But Louisville responds by putting up a two-spot in the top of the seventh. They lead 6-2. Henry Rodriguez singled and Neftali Soto doubled him to third. Felix Perez's single brought both runners home.

    Greg Reynold is through for the night. 7IP 5H 2R 2ER 0BB 8K.

Tony Amezcua was shaky in his two innings of relief. But with an 11-0 lead it was no problem.
Junior Arias with three hits, Winker and O'Shea two apiece. Homers by Rahier and O'Shea. A moat of Dragons chipping in offensively.

Dayton wins 11-4. Dayton's first back-to-back wins in over a month.
