    Agreed. Timing is everything.

I hope the Reds do enough to get to the postseason, and then hit their hot streak when they arrive there, to win it all.

    How about that sports fans!

11-15 is pretty close to .500. If 2 of those losses were wins they would have been right at .500, so that's not far off. The Reds are currently 6-13 against teams over .500. I think they will end the season with a good record against solid competition, but so far they have struggled.

The 1975 Reds were 37-29 against teams with a .500 record or better

Is there a site which gives the team record v teams above/below 500? On Baseball Reference it breaks done the record by team but I don't see a .500 split. I seem to remember the 2010 Reds clobbering the sub .500 teams while being .500 against the good teams while the Cards did better vs the good teams but not as well vs the sub 500 folks.

Thanks I was only looking at the individual team section.

    2010 Reds vs <.500 teams - 71-38
    2010 Cards vs <.500 teams - 49-53

I would think that would be considered a very good record against .500+ teams.

    Re: Really?

Honestly, I don't want the Reds to run away with the Central. I'd prefer them to be in it all year, and get hot at the end and win the Central in the last week.

It seems like teams that have nothing to play for from mid-August on have trouble once the playoffs start.

I'd consider it pedestrian for a "great" team

If the barometer for "good teams" is that they have a winning record against "good teams", there aren't going to be very many "good teams" since they are going to have losing records against "good teams"...

I think that in a year or two, one of these guys - Frazier, Dorn, Valaika, Cumberland, Stubbs - will be ready to replace Dunn. They won't hit as many home runs as Dunn, but they should have similar OPS. - 757690, July 22, 2008

Alonso will be playing 1B for the REDS and batting 4th one year from today. - Kingspoint, July 9, 2009

I'm guessing the '01 Mariners were huge exceptions to the norm. That regular season (116 wins) was ridiculous, and then they bombed out in the playoffs. I guess that was a pretty good indication that this stat doesn't guarantee post-season success.
