    Alex Rios

Moving on from the Giancarlo Stanton eternal flame for a minute, Alex Rios is another trade target that makes a ton of sense for this team.

Mlbtr has a nice Trade profile up on him today, implying that he could be shopped as the Sox look to rebuild. He bats righty, plays plus defense, and would look great in the 2 or 4 hole in our lineup.

He does make a decent amount of money this year and next, with a team option for 2015- the perfect duration for a corner OF trade target. So what would you offer?

I'd start with an offer of Ludwick plus any two prospects in the system outside of Hamilton, Winker and Stephenson. That could mean something like Travieso and Lutz (or Yorman), which I'd be fine with- especially if we could offset some cost by including Ludwick.
    Go BLUE!!!

The Reds aren't trading Ludwick and as long as they think he'll be back this year, they're not going to be making any major trades for left field IMHO.

IIRC, they can't trade him until a certain date. End of May or something.

Why would the Sox want Ludwick?
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Unrealistic to trade Ludwick right now. But the more I study the Reds' stats, the more obvious - rather patently obvious - that the Reds need to add a bat to replace Ludwick.

The Reds just don't hit well on the road, and the W/L road record reflects this. Pitching is also worse away from GABP, but the hitting numbers away are very poor.

One approach is to simply count on Bruce and Frazier to both get hot and compliment Choo, Votto, and Phillips. But Jay has never hit that well on the road and Frazier doesn't yet have the track record that cries out "no problem."

Walt has said it's too soon for the trade market to heat up, but I just don't think they have enough hitters in the lineup.

    Agree with this.

So forget about trading Ludwick for the moment.
Would you trade Travieso and one of Lutz/Yorman for Rios?

No but only because I think his contract becomes a big problem when paying some of pitchers in the future.

Reds mentioned as one of the teams interested in Rios.

    Re: Alex Rios

Rios has a $13.5M club option for 2015. You have to believe the Reds would only be interested in Rios if they were willing to exercise that. And his complete unwillingness to take a walk would fit right in. Seriously though, he's something like a 2.5 WAR player, which sadly represents something like a 3.0 WAR upgrade over Ludwick...

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Rios actually has a much better approach than most Reds hitters. He doesn't walk, but he doesn't K much either, and gets a lot of hits. His career OBP is .324, which isn't good, is amazing considering how little he walks.

Not who I would target, and I hope the price isn't too high, but he would definitely improve the team.
