Reds stats through 50 games, 2015

Reds went 4-6 over last ten games, still never more than five wins for any reported stretch this year. Reds at 22-28, same record as 2014 after 50 games. Reds run differential is -26, last season after fifty games was -16. Reds are 13-11 at home but 9-17 on the road. Reds are 8-9 in one-run games, last year at this stage 8-13.

Reds trail first place Cards by 11 games. Seven teams lead Reds in second wild card hunt. Parra up, Mesoraco on DL, Reds going with 13 pitchers and four bench players. Byrd due for DL stint with injury.

Offense - Reds team OPS is .710, above .705 league average. Reds seventh in NL in team OPS. As expected given 2014 injuries, Reds team OPS well ahead of last year's fifty game mark of .676, which was twelfth in league. Reds with 195 runs scored, thirteenth in NL, last year at this stage had 174. Reds currently above .391 league average in SLG with .397, seventh in NL. Reds exactly at league average in OBP, .313, ninth in NL. Reds below league average with .242 BA, NL average .252, last year after 50 Reds were at .241.

Reds non-pitchers at league average 100 wRC+. Reds team walk rate for offense is 8.7%, fourth highest in NL. Reds K% for offense is 19%, third lowest in NL. Reds ISO power is third highest in NL at .155. Reds BABIP for offense is .273, next to lowest in NL. Reds with lowest ground ball rate for offense in NL, 41.7%, and highest fly ball rate at 36.5%, line drive rate is eighth at 21.8%.

Reds team offense has an OPS against lefty pitching of .756, third highest in NL. Against righties, however, Reds ninth in NL at .694.

Marlon Byrd, apparently due for DL time, crushing lefties at .317/.404/.634/.1.038, but against righties .177/.246/.379/.625. Against righties, Reds best OPS are Frazier at .945, Votto .891, Barnhart (small sample) at .876 then a drop to Pena .779. Hamilton only at .523 against RHP and Bruce at .670. Against lefties Frazier at 1.042, Bruce .960 in lefty/lefty matches, Cozart .945, Votto .848. Phillips at .675 against lefties and Pena .583.

Overall, Frazier has been hot batter now at .280/.363/.608/.971. Votto only other hitter above .800 OPS at .878. Frazier with 16 homers tied for second in NL.

Pitching - Reds team ERA is twelfth in NL at 4.24. Last year after fifty games, Reds' team ERA was 3.63. Reds starting pitcher ERA is 4.10, tenth in NL, was 3.23 fourth best after fifty games last year. Reds relievers are at 4.54 ERA, thirteenth in NL. Last year at this stage relievers were slightly worse, at 4.68, but Chapman had missed time.

Reds team FIP currently 4.27, third worst in NL, and xFIP fourth worst at 4.07, pitching WAR eleventh highest at 2.9, and using Fangraphs more sophisticated measure, SIERA, Reds are fourth worst staff at 4.09. Using this SIERA measure, Reds starters are fourth worst in NL at 4.29, relievers are eighth in league at 3.68. (Starting staffs currently with higher SIERA range in NL as compared to bullpens.)

Reds K-BB% for pitchers is fourth worst in NL at 10.1%. Reds team WHIP is tenth in league (sixth worst) at 1.32.

Reds starting pitching over last thirty days by ERA -- Lorenzen 1.85, Cueto 3.18, Iglesias 4.32, DeSclafani 5.00, Leake 6.75, Marquis 8.50.
Reds starting pitching over last thirty days by SIERA -Cueto 3.48, Iglesias 3.52, Leake 4.81, Marquis 4.91, DeSclafani 5.48, Lorenzen 6.04.
Reds starting pitching over last thirty days by FIP - Iglesias 3.05, Cueto 3.43, DeSclafani 4.04, Lorenzen 5.21, Leake 6.79, Marquis 7.28.

Notable E-F, comparing ERA to FIP. Lorenzen with -3.36 so his ERA is much better than his fielding independent pitching stat.
Iglesias at 1.27 and Marquis 1.22, both with somewhat better fielding independent pitching stat than their ERA.

Cueto and Leake respectively with full season ERAs of 2.90 and 4.66. Last year at this stage, Cueto 1.83 and Leake 2.79.

Few scattered relief stats, based on SIERA, Mattheus at 1.60, best in pen, Chapman 2.46 (W-L at 3-3 with 1.61 ERA, after a few tough outings), Diaz at 2.49. On the other end Badenhop 4.91 SIERA, Cingrani 4.45. LOB% Chapman at 88.2, Parra at 80, Cingrani at 75.9, but Diaz at 57.9%, Badenhop 58.8% and Hoover 60%. Best ERAs are Parra 1.50, Chapman 1.61, Hoover 2.18. But Badenhop 7.27, Diaz 6.43.

Fielding - Reds with 23 errors tied for second best in NL. Last year after 50 games, Reds had same number, 23, but led league. Reds team UZR is 8.2, third best in NL, with 2.0 UZR/150. Last year at this stage, Reds UZR was 20.4 with 9.4 UZR/150, so still good defense in 2015 but diminished UZR numbers at this stage.

Feels like a ton of those have come of late. I didn't realize they were still 2nd-best in the NL. Guess a lot of people are kicking it around.
Rounding third and heading for home...
