Unpopular Question: But do you trade Choo at the deadline?

Obviously you brought him in as a rental. But even if the team is in contention, if he continues this production, do you look at potentially moving him to try to replenish a farm system that's obviously a little light after the past couple years.

Or is the 1st round pick for offering him a qualifying tender enough for you?

I don't know how I feel about it, to be honest. But if you broach the subject of an extension and he's hellbent on testing the market, do you sell high and get more for him than what you gave up?

Is this a serious question or a fantasy?

Agreed. Forums are always slow when the team is winning though, so just wanted to get opinions. You know

But it's also true that this team is operating on a budget, what the actual number is, who knows. But the opportunity to get potential impact players down the line that are under team control for years can strengthen a team who's window of opportunity is just opening, IMO.

For what, so we can have a platoon in left and a rookie getting his feet wet in center, which I would assume you would have Hamilton taking over? You would totally lose any momentum this offense had from having an actual lead off hitter, and we would have a horrible 1-2 again, assuming Hamilton struggles at a knew level as his past has shown. IMO, you do everything you can to get Choo signed 3-4 years.

Trying to win. They got him to do just what he's doing to help them win. Why in the world would the deal him unless the wheels fall completely off and make the 2013 post season an pipedream. If the Reds have a chance, Choo stays.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Why would they even trade for him in the first place?

The question might not be insane if the Reds were 10 games under.

The intention was for Choo to help the Reds contend, and he is currently doing so. Trading him right won happen because it makes zero sense on any level.

I do it in a 4 team deal where we receive Justin Upton, Yu Darvish, and Tulo.

Any way you could squeeze Cargo in there?

I'll sign off on it if Cargo's coming, too.

The Reds are in a "can't lose" situation with Choo. He's doing exactly what the club hoped he would, getting on base; one of the leaders of the team's offense. If he leaves at season's end, as he's likely to do, we offer arbitration and gain the added draft pick. If he accepts arbitration (not likely), he's back at a reasonably affordable $14M or so (easy enough for me to say, no?).

But I do have to echo what has been essentially unanimous here - why on earth would you trade him? That's completely "lost decade" thinking there, young grasshopper.
