    5/15/13 Redlegs v. Fish...legs?

    Choo 8,
    Izturis 6,
    Votto 3,
    Phillips 4,
    Bruce 9,
    Paul 7,
    Hannahan 5,
    Mesoraco 2,
    Leake RHP

Cozart and Frazier are out. I predict Votto will have the day off tomorrow.

Six guys in the Reds lineup can hit lefty. What team is this?

Maybe Arroyo is pitching for the Fish.

Reds should try and win this game, they have three tough pitchers coming up in the next three games, Fernandez, Lee, and Kendrick.

I think I found the Marlins lineup. This might not be reliable, though.

    Tanner Boyle (SS)
    Timmy Lupus (LF)
    Amanda Whurlitzer (P)
    Ahmad Abdul Rahim (CF)
    Kelly Leak (RF)
    Miguel Aguilar/Jose Aguilar (2B)
    Alfred Ogilvie (1B)
    Jimmy Feldman (3B)
    Mike Engelberg (C)

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

The part of that whole SS hits' second thing that people keep overlooking is that it's not that Dusty thinks Izturis is a #2 hitter, it's that he doesn't want to have to change everyone ELSE'S roles.

Personally, I think Dusty looks at it like this.

    Leadoff: Choo
    #3 hitter: Votto
    #5 hitter: Bruce

Cleanup, of the remaining guys Brandon is best suited for that role in Dusty's mind. So that leaves 2, 6, 7, 8. Hanigan has been productive and is comfortable in the 8 hole. So that one's taken. And Dusty doesn't want to have an automatic out inning of Cozart, Hanigan & the pitcher with 7,8,9. So Cozart is out of the 7 hole. Frazier is a run producer so he should be after the big boppers, 6 or 7 is a good spot. Once you see some of this rationalization you can see where and why everyone else fits in where they do. And when he takes a guy out for a day off...instead of making everybody on the roster adjust their preparation, he simply swaps out the players and keeps the majority of the lineup intact.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's not like he's just picking numbers out of a hat. He does put some thought into it. Putting a weaker slap-hitter in the 2 hole isn't an uncommon thought. Hit and runs, sac bunts to put the leadoff guy in scoring position for the 3&4 hitters. Etc.

Bottom line, let's be honest, Dusty could put out the exact lineup that Redszone wants him to....and people will STILL whine and moan about it. :O)

I think Dusty knows that Paul is the obvious two hitter. High OBP man since he became a Red.

But Paul means three consecutive lefties. Izturis switch hits.

Once you eliminate Paul, the normal alternative is Cozart because Dusty wants Frazier hitting lower down for power production.

The SS hits second thing is funny, but certainly Dusty intended BP to hit second this year.

Love walks in front of Votto
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Couldn't catch it! Phillips in with a double, and a run scores.
