No surprise. I think that the regression of the Cards starting pitching staff has already begun.

    Not many, not even Westbrook.

His xFIP is 4.44, which is the highest of his career.

His season has been a mirage.

Speaking of mirages, Mujica's current LOB % is 97.2; BABIP of .163. I look forward to those numbers returning to the norm.

My bad. In the 2 full seasons that Westbrook has pitched for the Cardinals, he has a record of 25-20 and an ERA around 4.35. I stand by assertion that he has been one of the best # 5 starters in the league.

By comparison, Red's # 5 starters have 13 wins over the last 2 years.

    Curious.

Shelby Miller has never been injured in his life, not even in high school. Not sure why you would opine that he will be injured anytime soon.

Are you an orthopedic surgeon ? A pitching coach ? Or something else ?

I think Kal was just having fun and not trying to make a serious analysis. Chill.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I'm not sure what you consider the norm, but in less than 1 full season with St.Louis, he has surrendered 6 ER in 44.1 innings. He has issued 4 BBs and has 39 Ks, giving up 3 HRs.

Although I certainly don't expect him to close out every game, I see no reason why he won't continue to be effective.

If he falters, there are plenty of arms to step in.

Maybe he simply reads the internet?

There was some suspicion last year when Shelby Miller was throwing about 5 MPH slower than normal in the first half of the year.

And in spring training this year, he was actually shut down for a short period for what they called "lingering shoulder tightness".

Many pitchers ride some luck for a season or more. Mujica is pitching better than he did with Florida, as he's increased his K-rate, but his BABIP with the Cards isn't going to remain in the mid-100's. His xFIP with the Cards is about 3.00, and that's likely the pitcher he's become.

A pitcher with that type of production will be a pretty good, though not elite closer.

The norm for babip and lob% are well established at ~.300 and 77% respectively. Sorry to disappoint, but these numbers apply to cardinal pitching too.

And no, the cards do not have an endless supply of effective bullpen arms.

With his injury history, how could you not expect him to be hurt at some point?

If a guy like him were a Red I'd expect him to be injured and count any time you do get from him as a plus.
