    Minor-League Updates for Monday 5-20-13

Ismael Guillon walked only one in the first inning of Dayton's brunch date. He fanned two.

The Dragons are trying to complete a 5-game sweep at South Bend. Gelalich's second-inning double was followed by a triple from Arias, and it's 1-0.

And the roof caves in on Guillon in the second as South Bend plates four. After five full Dragons trail 5-1. Dayton bats on pause.

    Guillon's line for the game: 4.2IP 6H 5R 3ER 5BB 6K.

I think it's time to swap Guillon and Travieso. Let Guillon work out his issues in Arizona and let Travieso get some real full season ball exposure.

Or maybe Guillon heads to Billings once that season starts next month.

That 1-zip lead turned out to be the highlight of the day for the Dragons as they were slain 9-1 today.

Guillon, as noted, had another bad outing. And the bully wasn't much better. Two Joe Terriers (Terry errors) dogged their efforts and led to three unearned runs.

Jeff Gelalich (single, double, run scored, stolen base) and Junior Arias (single, single, triple, run driven in, stolen base) led the offensive efforts. Winker, Terry and Hudson all singled as well.

    South Bend 9 Dayton 1.

Louisville is at Gwinnett for a twin-bill.

The sticks are alive in the first game as they have scored in each of the first five innings and lead 8-3 in the top of the fifth. Our old buddy Wirfin Obispo has come in relief for Gwinnett. Paul Janish is at short for Gwinnett.

Pedro Villarreal is on the mound and has settled down after giving up three runs in the first.
Billy Hamilton is 2 for 3 with a single, a double, a RS and a RBI.
Henry Rodriguez has a two-run jack.
Neftali Soto has singled, homered, scored once and driven in a pair.
Denis Phipps is 3 for 3 with two runs scored, two driven in and a home run.

Louisville hangs on in the first game 8-5.

    Villarreal - 4.1IP 8H 4R 4ER 2BB 3K
    Partch - 2.2IP 1H 1R 1ER 1BB 4K.

    Louisville-Gwinnett game number two.

Bats jumped ahead 1-0 in the first. Billy Hamilton singled to lead off. Soto singles him around to third. They have Soto hung up trying to move into second and Hamilton scores during the rundown. Hamilton is en fuego. Two hits in the first game and 2 for 2 so far in the second. He is hitting .352 in his last 54 at-bats.
Daniel Corcino is on the mound for Louisville and is having a tough time finding the plate.
Only a ground ball double play limited the damage in the second as he walked in two runs. Walk, GIDP, HBP, Single, Single, Walk, Walk and Line Out.

    Gwinnett leads 2-1 after two.

Soto has also said "Up in the show, We.... " a game high 14 times.

Mobile is visiting Pensacola and they lead 4-0 in the middle of the fifth.

Josh Smith is having his way with eight of the nine BayBear batters. However, Keon Broxton, using honey instead of pine tar, is stealing his pic-a-nic basket so to speak. Broxton has a pair of two-run blasts, accounting for all of Mobile's scoring.

Mather and Greene have doubles; LaMarre, Smith and Barnhart have singles.

    Gwinnett takes the nightcap 5-2.

    Daniel Corcino was ineffective and wild: 4.2IP 6H 5R 3ER 6BB 2K.

Hamilton, Soto and Rodriguez with 2 singles apiece; Perez and Ashley each doubled. Billy Hamilton ended up scoring both runs.

Out west, Bakersfield came from behind to win 5-3, thanks in large part to a four-run fifth inning.

Carlos Contreras went a solid five: 5IP 5H 2R 1ER 3BB 4K. Pat Doyle and Jimmy Moran combined for three shutout innings of relief. El'Hajj Muhammad picked up his fifth save despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Ryan Wright was hot at the dish last night, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run. His homer was a three-run shot that gave the Blaze a 5-2 lead at the time. He also scored a pair of runs.

That was just Silverio's second appearance at short this season. Probably just a day off for the regular Juan Perez. Perez was 0-10 in his last two starts.
