    Joey Votto or Miguel Cabrera?

If you have the pick, which one do you take?

Depends what you want them to do. I don't want either one to help me build a fence.

I would take Votto. He would give you better advice on what coffee to drink.

Miggy's probably about a 1% better hitter, but taking the whole package into account you have to go Votto.

Joey is one of my favorite Reds ever, but is he on a more certain path to the HOF than Cabrera currently is? For his age, Cabrera's numbers are ridiculous.

Different question, as Cabrera's 2003 to 2007 significantly helps his HOF path, but doesn't make much if any difference in which one you'd take today.

Cabrera may be the only hitter I take over Votto

I don't know, those Canadians are expert fence-builders.

Cabrera is hitting .416 against fastballs, with a league average of .278, and .347 on off-speed pitches, with a league average of .221. He's hitting .299 with two strikes, compared to the league average of .183. He has swung and missed at fastballs away just 17% of the time, compared to 27% a year ago. He's also more aggressive this year, swinging 57% of the time on the first pitch, punishing pitchers with a .448 average with three homers.
