    Minor League Updates: Wednesday 5/22/2013

West Michigan is visiting Dayton tonight. Pedro Diaz is flinging the horsehide for the Dragons.

In the bottom of the second Jesse Winker and Seth Mejias-Brean both singled with nobody out. After a force play, Tanner Rahier doubled in a pair.

Diaz made that lead stand up until the visitor's half of the fourth. A pair of walks followed by a double tied things up at two, which is where the game stands going into the home half of the fourth.

An error by Zach Vincej was followed up by back-to-back singles as West Michigan takes a 3-2 in the top of the sixth. Two runners on. Nobody out. Alejandro Chacin coming in from the bullpen. Good news. Chacin struck out the side. Bad news. He walked a pair in between strikeouts. West Michigan now leads 4-2.

    Pedro Diaz: 5IP 4H 4R 3ER 3BB 4K.

Seth Mejias-Brean is 2 for 2 tonight and has been on fire in his last 10 plus games. .415/.457/.610/1.067

Junior leads off the seventh inning with a single. One out later Joe Hudson walks. They execute a double steal (#21 for Arias). An errant throw by the catcher allows Arias to score and Hudson to move into third. He scores the tying run on a sac fly off the bat of Zach Vincej. Tie ballgame after at 4 runs apiece at the end of seven.

Joey Housey holds West Michigan scoreless in the top of the eighth. In the bottom Joe Terry leads off with a base knock. He is forced by Jeff Gelalich. Jesse Winker then unties the game with his seventh long ball on the season. This one a two-run shot. Sean Lucas comes on to record the save as Dragon fans head home happy.

The bullpen was a big key as Chacin, Housey and Lucas combined for four innings of hitless, scoreless baseball.

Jesse Winker singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in a pair, including the game winners.
Seth Mejias Brean singled and doubled.
Junior Arias singled, stole a base and scored twice.
Tanner Rahier chipped in with a two-run two-bagger.

    Dayton 6 West Michigan 4.

Pensacola is still lousy, but its good to see the three levels where we have the most talent concentrated playing better ball of late.
(Referring to Jack Hannahan signing with a Korean team)
Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

Brean was one of my favorite players last year at Billings. His slow start had me thinking last year was a 1 hit wonder.

I'm really happy to see him putting it together. In fact, alot of the slow starts for guys are coming to an end. Good to see.
