What promotions would you like to see at GABP?

Figured it'd be fun to have a discussion not directly related to the Reds' on-field product and success.

I've thought for YEARS that it'd be really cool to have a "Crosley Field Day" where fans are encouraged to wear their "Sunday best", similar to how fans used to dress back in the (g)olden days. Vendors would all wear something similar to what the mobile-hotdog-guy wears now, no electronics would be used on scoreboards/message boards except for the main board with a "retro" style stat line. Ideally, it'd be cool to see concession prices reduced, but that wouldn't happen. In between innings there would be no current bands blaring over the loud speakers, but just the organist going to town. It'd be an homage to what the experience of baseball used to be, not saying that today's experience is poor, but it'd be fun to "go back in time" the only way we can.

What would your ideas be? It can be a giveaway, promotion, themed day, etc.

    -Matt

I'd love to see "Stay In Your Damn Seat While The Game Is In Progress" night at the old ballyard.

    THIS.

BTW-They mainly use only the organ for music during Sunday day games so fans do get that experience when they attend those games.

I'd love to see that too, but I don't want to limit it to one night...

In DC the ushers put up a stop sign at the entrance of the section for anyone trying to get back to their seats during an inning. I had not seen this before this season. I got caught on one of those during a half inning. I didn't have to wait too long as Dusty came out to talk to a pitcher.

Sorry, but anyone who can remain in their seat for 3 or 4 hours must have a behind made of iron. I've never been able to do it.

You missed my point, NYR, no one expects anyone to stay in their seat for 3-4 hours, but not be getting up and down constantly while the game is in progress (ie- actually being played)

Good times to get up or sit back down include: between innings, when managers come out to argue, pitching changes, umpires reviewing replay, etc.

I don't think it's too much to ask for folks to wait until there is a break in the action to get up, make you get up and not be able to see the game, do you?

I will never forget going to a minor league game with my dad when I was a kid. There was a younger kid sitting by us, and he kept getting up and running around the entire game, and making us have to move for him. My dad finally grabbed him and asked if he wanted to go meet Jesus-that he might if he keeps getting up so many times.

You say that until the first time the guy sitting next to you craps his pants because you didn't want to be inconvenienced.

Well, how many of those ups and downs are real emergencies, doug, and how many are just folks being rude, not even being rude, but not just thinking?

I'll make an exception for emergency diarrhea and vomiting as well. ok?

Well if you make that exception, they are just going to claim they have diarrhea the entire game and still do what they always do.

Honestly, what makes you more important than me (speaking in generalities here)? Why is your convenience of watching the game more important than mine of going to the bathroom or getting a drink or hot dog or beer or whatever else when I want to get one? I go to 10-20 games a year. I don't leave my seat except to go to the restroom. I have never felt like others were being rude or anything else simply because they left their seat. It happens. They paid to get into the park too. That includes all that comes with it. The restrooms, the playground for their kids, the vendors, the food and beverage options, the team shop, the kiosks.

ORGers should use this same thinking. Everyone isn't the same, but we all love the Reds. Stop thinking you're better than any other poster. Thank you, Doug.

You know, I never thought of it that way doug- you're right- how rude of me to want to watch the baseball game while I'm at the baseball game!

I'm not even considering the rights of others, since they paid just as much as I did, to cavort up and down the aisle, anytime they want, paying no attention to anything at all, other than what they're going to eat next. How obtuse I am!!

Really, doug, I understand that you are just playing a game here.

My convenience is not more important than yours; it is the same, but my wife and mine are twice as important and ten random people's convenience is ten times as important than yours. Courtesy is about thinking of others and sometimes even about the common good. Just my two cents.
What if this is as good as it gets?
