    Rios to Pirates?

Take this with a grain of salt, but rumors are circulating on Twitter that Alex Rios has been traded to the Pirates. He was removed from the White Sox game tonight and was seen hugging teammates in the dugout. Apparently Pirates prospect Alan Hanson was also pulled from his game at Bradenton in the minors.

Again, speculation at this point... but if this deal becomes official, what say you, Redszone? I'm a meh on this one. Rios is decent, but I'm not sure he's a true difference-maker. Seems like Hanson is a good prospect to give up, too.

Confirmed that #Pirates prospect Alen Hanson getting pulled is merely coincidence. #WhiteSox #hugwatch #AlexRios

He also reported if he's been traded it's probably not to Pitt. Interesting.

    Re: Rios to Pirates?

I keep seeing Hanson mentioned in trade rumors. Got to watch him last year, and he was ridiculously fast, going first to third more quickly than anyone I've seen in this town since Omar Moreno, and he seems to be able to hit (and take walks), but he was an awful, awful fielder, particularly having trouble knowing what to do with the ball once it was in his glove. Again, this is observation only, but I'm surprised he hasn't been moved to cf yet.

Oh, and yeah, Rios not going to the Pirates is a good thing. As long as he doesn't go to St. Louis.

Rios sucks. He'll be a bust for the Buccos. (If this is actually legit.)

With runners on first and third and the game tied at 2 in the fifth, Rios hit a hard grounder to [Andrelton] Simmons that looked as if it would be an easy inning-ender.

Simmons bobbled the ball twice, but with Rios getting a slow start out of the batter's box, the double play was still turned without much of an issue. Rios was replaced by Casper Wells in right field in the top of the seventh.

And he received hugs in the dugout for that? Me thinks someone told a fib about that, or the White Sox have gone all Dr. Phil to console their poor teammate who was just harshly disciplined.

    Re: Rios to Pirates?

I think Rios would be great for the Reds in LF and hitting 2nd. He would be a very useful 2 hitter, and if needed hitting 4th ..on some occasions.

For the Pirates, they need more than Rios to help their offense from the right side. They need a true #4 RH power hitter.

I happen to agree with you on this but, what becomes of Rios and his huge contract when/if Ludwick returns? Who sits? Platoon with Choo in CF?

    Re: Rios to Pirates?

I want Rios on this team. But, it's not gonna happen. Ludwick and Heisey just don't make it possible. Ludwick makes getting a outfielder unlikely since the Reds wanna see some return for their new contract with him.

Choo/Rios/Bruce outfield with Ludwick/Heisey on the bench makes me really excited but I'll just have to make that happen on my fantasy team at this point. I see the Reds getting a solid reliever before the deadline.
