Jay Bruce adds another HR and RBI to his "disappointing" season.
"I talked to an advance scout that told me if Joey Votto and Albert Pujols were on the same team he'd advise his team to do the unthinkable...pitch around Votto to get to Pujols." - Buster Olney, ESPN

Bruce homers off Wandy. Bruce used to sit when Wandy pitched. Bruce was 3 for 34 lifetime against Wandy before this game.

I'm glad Bruce hit the homer because I sense another road team slump coming on and I can't take another one. Let's get a few runs and win some games against decent teams.

Normally I'm with you but I can't get on guys too much when they are hitting the ball to the wall.

Big to get on the board first. Cueto needs a zero here.
This is the ol Left Hander rounding third and heading for home.

What do you want them to do? They're getting good pitches to hit even on the first pitch, they just aren't falling in the right spots.

That is, except for Bruce's first pitch HR.
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

Pirates announcers after Reds take the lead -- "now it's our turn to hit."

    Nice, neutral take on things.

Not sure if I necessarily get the need for 100% forced neutrality 100% of the time.

Next they'll be going out on a limb by saying "after the bottom of the 4th, the top of the 5th will follow"

If those shots had been struck on the second or third pitch, they would have gone to the right spots.

McCutchen tries the first-pitch approach, and flies out.

We need to wear down the pitcher and see some pitches. The Reds have the lowest batting average in MLB when 1st pitch swinging.

Pirates announcers: "Surprised Cueto didn't get a little chin music first time up."

    I'm shutting off the sound.
