"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search
An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”
Thanks, Gallen5862.

The Reds have signed first-round pick Phillip Ervin for the exact slot recommendation of $1,812,400 according to Baseball America's Jim Callis (on Twitter). Ervin is advised by Moye Sports Associates..

It is close enough. The Reds pool money is a little over $6M. They can spend whatever they want after round 10, as long as it isn't more than $100,000. Anything over that counts toward their "cap" in its entirety. Everything spent between rounds 1-10 counts toward the cap. A failure to sign a player goes against your "cap" and you lose that money. For example, if you don't sign your #8 round pick and the slot is $160,000, you lose that $160,000 off of your draft cap.

Since we have our first signing with a $ figure associated with it, you can see how the spreadsheet version gives you the remaining money.

Shedrick Long on his Tweeter feed has himself listed as a Catcher in the Reds's organization and told one of his friends who was drafted by the Giants that he would be playing against him.
I'm betting that out 1A pick will sign for less money in a pre-draft deal, which will give us the money to sign pick #14.
Cory Thompson on his Twitter said a member of the Reds organization and that its his job now.
They'll save on contracts for Weiss and Bratvett for sure, and probably Wright, so that will free up some of that top 10 money for the talented kids with signability issues who came later (Abreu, Morales, Collins and others). I'm wondering if they got Franklin on a below slot deal, too.
Chad Jones spoke with Walt, will report to Arizona.
