A quarter of a century in age difference will do that.

Ain't it the truth? My newest grandson was named Maverick...I said "oh you expect him to be a riverboat gambler do you? My d-i-l looked at me quizzically. "Did Ton Cruise gamble in Top Gun" Sheesh...felt even older when she had no clue who James Garner was and never heard of the TV series....same with baseball...guys rave about some guy like BPs defense and I say "you remember Maz?" Remember? Hell they were born 25 years after he played! Of course they don't!

Its like the "players are better today argument...yes athletically that is true...but I guarantee you if you could take a time trip to a game in 1961 you'd notice NO seeming difference watching them play than when you watch guys play today...peer equivalence.

    Ouch.

Signed for $5,000. Slot was $135,300?

I'm thinking Chad Jones may get similar treatment.

Daniel had no leverage. Is it possible that the Reds contacted him when it became apparent that he might fall out of the first 10 rounds and offered him this deal for #10, the alternative being no bonus at all in a later round? By doing this the Reds free up slot money to put toward other players and Wright at least gets something. Jones could have a similar agreement.

It would be a good strategy for stretching pool money by over drafting guys that you might have liked in the 12-17 round range who had little negotiating leverage in order to free up enough money to lure at least one other player believed to have a strong college commitment.
