If you control Carpenter, you pretty much control the Cards. He has become the best leadoff man in baseball. Check the stats if you doubt. And he is challenging BP as the best all around 2Bman. He can't make the plays that Brandon makes, but make all the plays that should be made. Has BP beat in almost EVERY offensive category.

I do doubt. Compare him to Choo. Sorry, he's not the best...even WITH Choo scuffling of late.

He's very good with the bat (so far) but well behind in HR and RBI. If those were closer, it would be an interesting debate due to BP's big edge with the glove.
