Just after a quick google search, sounds like he is a late bloomer. Wasn't very good until his senior year when he stepped up as the #1 starter and had a really nice season.

6'3 200 RH Starter in college, but reliever in the pros according to this short scouting report:

He has a good build with an arm-heavy delivery that leads to erratic results. He is a reliever in pro ball.

Wright had a pretty good but not much discussed season. This kid threw 152 and a third innings with 141 Ks against only 22 walks. That's a pretty incredible 6.41 K/BB ratio, Usually you only see that in a reliever who has match-ups in his favor. Wright did it by making 25 starts. Among the Reds top prospects, Ben Lively with a 3.29 is next best. Top guys Lorenzen and Stephenson are both below 2.00. K/BB is usually a pretty decent indicator. Wright did have some homers allowed, but I wonder if Wright isn't a seriously under-rated prospect.

Anybody have any info on his stuff? What pitches does he throw? What type of velocity? etc.

"It's huge for me, because I don't have the best fastball or best offspeed pitches," he said. "I live and die by command. I have to command the ball, or I'm going to get hit around a little bit like I have a couple times in this league. Especially with hitters in this league, they'll make you pay for leaving balls up or out over the plate. You've just got to keep the ball down and hit your spots.""

He got a mention in this article today:

    "Cistulli’s Guy

    Daniel Wright, RHP

The Cincinnati system actually features a number of young players whose minor-league performance and profile suggest the possibility of major-league value — even if the scouting reports are less encouraging. . . . Most notable this past season, though, was Wright. The 23-year-old recorded a strikeout-walk differential of nearly 20 percentage points — among the top figures by that measure in the entire minor leagues — and did so to disproportionately little acclaim. Is he a top prospect? No. But his numbers to date would appear to merit a closer examination."

The thing that is keeping Daniel from getting a lot of attention as a prospect is mostly his age. He could be a late bloomer. His stuff is not going to knock you out, but there are certainly plenty of big league pitchers who would have similar velocity. His fastball is average and could get better. He is a great kid, very focused and dedicated. The comps might be LeCure, Rogers. You hope he adds a little velocity as he gains experience and improves his mechanics. He is not a Reds top-10 prospect but he has a chance. He does not have the arm of a Romano or Travieso but he is worth watching.

Another guy who throws harder that I think has a real chance is Zack Weiss. He would be starting if not for the quantity of arms surrounding him. Take a good look at his numbers. There is a lot to like. Going to be in the 94 mph range most of the time as a reliever.
